“I know that, princess, but I’m going to have to cut off communication so we don’t get arrested. Get out of the house! Good evening, officers…”

Static filled her ears, and she slipped the earpiece out. There was no way she wasn’t going up to the second landing. Jacob would have to get over it. The wood under her feet groaned; she cringed. She glanced up the last few steps. Nothing. She tiptoed into the hall; it looked like some creepy maze. Wonderful.

She walked with her back to the wall until she came upon the only room with light shining under the door. Putting her ear against the cool wood, she tried to make out any movement; again nothing. Dr. Drake didn’t have any pets or girlfriends, so what in the hell was going on? She took off her goggles and hooked them onto her belt; she didn’t want the light to make her hesitate. She took a deep breath, put one hand on the knob, the other on the door, and pushed it open…

My Review:

When Alexandra McKay’s sister Fletcher goes missing Alex is not too thrilled about having to disrupt her life to go look for her but she will do anything to keep her sister safe and bring her home.

Fletcher is a very good friend of Private Investigator Jacob Keller so when he hears that she is missing he will do whatever it takes to get her back even if it means working with her sister Alex whom Jake does not like at all. No, Jake and Alex did not care for each other very much but they did care a lot for Fletcher and would do anything for her even if it means spending a little time together.

Alex and Jake have a whole slew of people helping them with their search for Fletcher even Fletcher herself. Fletcher was left little clues behind for them to find. Can Alex and Jake put aside their difference long enough to find Fletcher before it is too late?

The Truth Behind the Mask is the first book in the McKay series that I have read and I must say that I enjoyed it very much. The characters were all great people who all seemed so real. I loved the banter that took place between all the characters but especially between Alex and Jake.

Yeah, the heat was there, the sparks were there, sparks of more than one type were flying between Alex and Jake every time they were together. I think Alex was just a little bit afraid that if she gave her heart away, that it would be ripped out of her chest and thrown back at her. She was afraid to take that first step and give love a chance. I guess Jake wasn't reading those sparks correctly.

The Truth Behind the Mask kept me on the edge of my seat page after page as I followed Alex and Jake on their search for Fletcher. The suspense alone was enough to keep those pages flying. The Truth Behind the Mask was slow to reveal all its secrets keeping me in suspense from beginning to end.
