A bolt of lightning. And a dream of vengeance.

For wolf-demon Kari, these define her every waking moment. Her parents are dead, slaughtered by human hands, forcing their only daughter to masquerade among their killers to save her own skin. Now she dwells among them, hiding her lightning-based abilities and plotting a terrible revenge, believing her schemes are all she's good for now. But when she discovers unexpected solace among a group of humans who look past her monstrous nature, Kari finds herself questioning everything. Her mission. Her dreams. Even the hatred festering in her heart.

Is it possible for a creature like Kari to find happiness in a world that despises her?

Or will the specters of her past force her down the path of vengeance in the end?

Interview with (Valerie Storm)

How did you become involved with the subject or theme of your book?

Some of it came from anime (Inuyasha is big on that drama, big bad villains and losing loved ones), others came from life experience twisted into a fantastical world.

What were your goals and intentions in this book, and how well do you feel you achieved them?

My goal was to write it, polish it, and get it published. I intend for it to reach other likeminded people, maybe younger adults who need some guidance to know they’re not alone. I don’t know if I’ve hit that latter part yet, but I have hope in doing so.

What was the hardest part of writing this book?

Getting critique. Every time it’s a heart attack waiting to happen.

What did you enjoy most about writing this book?

Learning about the characters. When I start a book, I only have a vague idea of the character and their background. As I go, I get to learn more about them and that’s the best part!

Were there alternate endings you considered?

Hmm. No, Birth of the Storm was always going to come to around the same ending.

Can you share some stories about people you met while researching this book?

Mostly Twitter people! I met so many friends while working on Birth, trying to learn the ins and outs of publishing and how it all worked. I share a lot of similarities with Kira, for instance; we like the same sort of villain characters >:3

What genre of books do you enjoy reading?

Almost always fantasy, though I also enjoy romance and horror.
