‘Your brass is ballsy, Kage Sable.’ – Harlow Meridien.

Running from her past, Harlow lives for the present. She’s sassy-smart-strong. A genius, generous, confident scientist developing a groundbreaking propulsion technology that’s attracted the attention of The Sable Group, and Kage Sable, to be exact.

He’s a master builder, an ex-warrior, a kick-ass engineer with sexy nerd energy and her new ‘boss’. His shop is responsible for an enviable fleet of high-tech corvettes, luxury flyers and racing pinnaces – helping to cement the Sable Riders’ dominance across Pegasi.

Convinced she’s the woman for him, Kage is determined to make Harlow his. He strongly believes every superwoman needs a superman. Problem is, she’s not so sure. She’s got a bad history with men. All she wants to do is focus on her work that could shift the balance of power in the Pegasi System.

She’s wary of Kage’s moxie and full-on thrust at life and love and doesn’t think she’s ready for that much intensity yet. But he slowly draws her in, one delicious moment at a time.

From subterranean speakeasies, sunken casinos and ancient ruins to fighting dens and exquisite eateries, Kage takes Harlow on dizzying flights of pure bliss across Eden II to convince her he’s light years from the ‘lame, always running game’ losers of her past. Instead, he’s a real man with strong convictions and the best intentions, who believes in an impossible love.

Together, they’ll fight for the relationship they want while keeping their top-secret breakthrough from a swarm of greedy, ruthless galactic hustlers. Together, they’ll fall into a twilight dusk of heady love and impossible starlight.

Interview with Sky Gold

How many books have you written, and which is your favourite?

I’ve written three books (all three in the Sable Riders series) - and so far, Stars on Fire - Book 1 - is my favourite.

I love Kainan’s strength, leadership, passion for justice and commitment to his brotherhood.

If you’re planning a sequel, can you share a tiny bit about your plans for it?

The sequel to Stars at Dusk is Stars of Gems - which is currently on Pre-Order with a launch date of June 11, 2023. It’s an enemies-to-lovers HEA with major supernatural themes and an overarching love story between two diametrically opposed characters. He’s ice, she’s fire, he’s an ice-cold tundra, she’s a raging wild flame.

Do you want each book to stand on its own, or are you trying to build a body of work with connections between each book?

Stars at Dusk is Book 2 of a planned interconnected 6-book series. The blurb for the series is:

War is stirring in the skies and stars above Eden II. Between empires in ascension and others in decline.

One power on the rise is made up of a fraternity of brothers like no other. A crew of six mysterious men - The Sable Riders. They’re ghosts, wraiths, glimmers in the dark. Unseen. Yet they’re rumoured to be the galaxy’s most lethal metahumans with exponential reach.

They’re ruthless ex-warriors who live in the Pegasi universe, where humans escaped after The Great Apocalypse. Their home world is Eden II, a sizeable lunar moon at Pegasi’s centre of commerce and business. Here, The Sable Group designs luxury flyers and racing yachts. But, they also have a significant side hustle - high-tech surveillance, mercenary armies and military ships to help defend the System against the coming conflicts. However, they rarely, if ever, talk about their enterprise. They prefer to keep their business to themselves and instead focus on raising banks for all the security, charity and rescue work they invest in.

But word and proof of their prowess is spreading, and their growing dominance means their enemies and haters abound. They can’t stay hidden for long and are soon caught up in a battle for their existence.

At the same time, love comes knocking on each of their doors. One by one, these badasses meet their matches and find their prize possessions. Imbuing the Riders with passion, meaning and joy, they each didn’t think they deserved, given their humble and tragic origins. Together with their partners, they’ll reach for the stars, even as their enemies seek to turn their destiny to ashes.

How did you come up with the title for your book?

I love the stars, stargazing and everything poetic and romantic about space. Stars are the most luminous bodies in the sky, so it wasn’t a major leap to name the books after them that feature a hopefully lupous love story.

How long did it take you to write this book?

The book idea took about two months to perfect, and writing it took another four months.

    What does the title mean?

The title ‘Stars at Dusk’ relates to Kage and Harlow’s relationship and how together, they fight for the relationship they want and work to keep their top-secret breakthrough from a ruthless and secret galactic organisation while also falling into a twilight dusk of heady love and impossible starlight.

What did you learn when writing the book?

I learnt the power of having a safe space and safe people, which is what I’d hoped to convey in the book. One of the book themes is healing - and the fact that while we all may have trauma, healing is found when we face our problems within the safety of a loving relationship, be it romantic or otherwise.

    What surprised you the most?

How Kage Sable took a rich, deep life all of his own - he has his own cadence, language, style and characterisations. He’s also had many challenges to overcome, and because he has worked on himself, he’s able to help guide Harlow towards her own healing - which is what great couples do for each other. He’s a committed, talented and deeply loyal friend and boyfriend - simply a gorgeous, smart man with moxie, inside and out.

Have you ever killed off a character your readers loved?

Not yet. Fingers crossed, I don’t have to anytime soon, but if it helps the story reach its fulfilment (because stories really do have a life of their own), then I’ll reluctantly do it.

What do you do to get inside your characters’ heads?

I listen to music, I get inspired by words, I chat with my girlfriends, I watch a lot of great drama and read many books, and I pull insights from my own lovable, sometimes grumpy husbeast - AKA my husband - who resembles so many of these men!
