Welcome to a world filled with magic...and smog. But mostly smog. That is a big problem and it won't be left by the wayside if the witches have anything to say about it. A magical world it may be, but with some real-life problems that are all too familiar to anyone who inhabits planet Earth.

   Interview with Asya Krengauz

Tell us about your book?

My book is a fictional story that takes place in a land far away where a group of witches draws their power from the Green. Only the humans are destroying the Green and don’t seem to care! The witches do everything to try and save the Green, but they then realize, they need a totally new and different strategy because what they’ve been doing hasn’t worked.

This book is very reflective of when I wrote it, which was in 2020. It talks about what was happening then politically, and the chaos that was in 2020.

I was giong for a fun and humorous approach to some very real topics.

What is the PRIMARY benefit, above all others, that your potential reader will gain from reading this book?

I was going for a fun way to spread the message about environmentalism. I think adults will find that this is a humorous book that also talks to their kids about what’s going on in the world.

If you had to compare this book to any other book out there, which book would it be?

I was very inspired by Harry Potter and the fantasy-filled world they live in that also has a lot of our own reality in it. At the same time, there are definitely some dystopian vibes that remind me of the Hunger Games. The book is not like those stories at all, but I loved those series and I think there is a similar feeling at some points.

Hundreds of thousands of books come out every year. Why should someone buy THIS book?

There is one thing I’m sure of. This book is creative. Love it, hate it, it’s creative. It paints, what I think, is a very good picture of 2020 when the world fell apart. At the time, I was watching a lot of entertaining news that poked a lot of fun at Trump, so if you are into that, this book has it.

Who is your target audience?

I wanted this to be a story that inspired youth. I would say its targe audience are young adults. I wasn’t specifically aiming at girls, but since I am female, I can more easily write from that point of view. I do think it applies to people who are privileged enough to care about the environment, meaning in areas where you have a choice to do something. And I do think it’s for people who already have some interest in the environment, otherwise, this book will annoy the hell out of you.

Did your environment or upbringing play a major role in your writing and did you use it to your advantage?

The environment at the time played a major role in this book. I also started thinking about this while working in a speech therapy clinic (I’m a speech therapist) where there was so much garbage, I wanted to scream at every person coming in with a plastic cup!

Tell us your most rewarding experience since publishing your work?

I think the most rewarding part is completing the story and actually liking it. I have written a ton of garbage. This is the first time that I wrote something so long and was like “This is great!”.

How would you describe your writing style?

Heavy on the humor and refrences to pop culture.

Are your characters pure fiction, or did you draw from people you know?

Some are definitely pure fiction. But the leader of the humans, while appearing to be pure fiction because he’s a little ridiculous, is 100% real.

Are you more of a character artist or a plot-driven writer?

Definitely plot-driven. The story comes to me and then I see who is in it.

What do you hope to accomplish with your book other than selling it?

I would love to make a change. Though I realize that it’s really hard to get people to give a crap about the environment. Which is why the story was born, but I know that if even Leonardo DiCaprio can’t do it, who can?

About the Author

This is exciting. And…slightly awkward. You don’t know me. I don’t know you. We’re here, staring at each other. What does one say in this situation?

Unless you do know me, in which case, “Hey girl! Let’s twerk later, shall we?”

We’ll start with “hi”! My name is Asya. I’m a writer. Isn’t that sexy? I like to write. I like to talk. I love to spread information. But only if it’s controversial. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be fun.

You can find me on Substack and I would like to dedicate it to diet culture. You f*cking c*nt. You, diet culture, who took away so much of my life and takes away so many others. I’m not the first to write on this topic, but damn it if I don’t share my piece!

The word needs to be spread, and by golly, I’m here to spread it.
