CAN CHOICE EXIST WITHIN THE CONSTRAINTS OF A PROPHECY?
Angelika Juris unexpectedly becomes legal guardian to her sister’s rejected child, Dani... a child with the potential to develop supernatural abilities.
After witnessing a horrific event, Dani develops mental health issues, but is able to overcome her inner turmoil through treatment and her parents’ love. Their lives fall into a comfortable routine filled with dance classes, sleepovers, and video game marathons.
Until the accident.
At the age of thirteen, Dani is involved in a tragic highway disaster, and as a result of her injuries, her powers manifest. Afraid to tell her parents about her newfound abilities, and even more afraid of harming them, Dani is lured away to find her estranged mutant brothers, seeking answers about her origins and how to control her new power.
Guided by an amulet and map—a gift sent from her brother, Tomas Scholz—Dani embarks on an adventure where she meets a young boy, Jonathan. He is lost, with no memories of his identity, his family, or his home. With nowhere else to turn, Jonathan joins Dani on her quest, and together they battle pirates, the undead, and finally, her evil family—a family that is a far cry from what she expected.
Will Dani deny her destiny and resist the evil plans of her siblings, or will she succumb to her role in fulfilling the prophecy—being the path and the key—that ends in the fall of mankind?
Interview with Lanie Mores
For those interested in exploring the subject or theme of your book, where should they start?
My new novel, Sea of Forgetfulness, is based on the subject of the afterlife, combining the two concepts of science and religion to explain what happens after we leave the earthly realm. Is there a heaven or hell, or a state of purgatory where we are suspended between life and death…a place where we are forced to atone for our sins? My novel attempts to answer these questions based on my own theories and philosophies that I have developed over the years.
How did you become involved with the subject or theme of your book?
My upbringing had a lot to do with inspiring the theme of my novel. My father was a doctor, and my mom was a nurse, so their background was in the sciences, yet they still held strongly to their Catholic beliefs, and raised my sister and I with the same values. I even chose to study the sciences in University, getting my Bachelor of Science degree, all the while attending weekly mass on Sundays. In my heart, I have always believed that science can actually provide evidence for many stories and passages in the Bible, and I am not alone in this. After reading several theories by reputable scientists explaining the connection between science and religion—mainly the theory of ID-volution—I knew that I was on to something.
What were your goals and intentions in this book, and how well do you feel you achieved them?
My goal for this book is an ongoing process…perhaps not yet fully achieved but definitely getting there. In continuing the Father of Contention saga, I wanted to share my story and theories with the world, to help people think of the afterlife from a different perspective. And in this, I feel I was successful. But there is still one more book in the series which will ultimately bring my point home for the readers, giving a deeper explanation and hopefully a profound awareness of what my true intentions were for the entire series. There are still more pieces of the puzzle to discover before the overall picture will be complete.
Anything you would like to say to your readers and fans?
From the bottom of my heart, I would like to thank all of my readers for giving the Father of Contention series a read, and thank you for all the reviews that have been posted on Amazon and Goodreads. And a special thanks to my social media followers. It warms my heart every time someone likes or shares my posts or leaves a comment. The support has been amazing, and I am forever grateful.
What did you enjoy most about writing this book?
This book is a roller coaster ride full of adventure and mayhem. It involves several unrelated genres that I enjoy, so I had a blast combining them into one story. Demons, angels, mutants with supernatural abilities, zombies, pirates…they are all in there!
Can you tell us a little bit about your next books or what you have planned for the future?
My next novel, hopefully to be released by next summer, will be book four in the Father of Contention series, titled Gatekeepers of Eden. It concludes the story of Dani and her involvement in the prophecy that has the potential to destroy mankind. We find out if she serves as the path and the key, helping her mutant brothers and father to corrupt the world, or if she is able to resist their demands. We discover what happens to Ang and Anthony, the remaining mutant triplets, and we meet many new characters along the way.
After that book is complete, there will be a stand-alone book that will serve as a segue between the Father of Contention series and a new series I am working on that includes some familiar faces from my previous stories.
How long have you been writing?
I have been writing since I was a young child, probably around age seven or eight. I started writing cartoons, then short stories, and I even dabbled in poetry. As I got older, I knew I wanted to write a novel and set it as a goal for myself but didn’t actively start writing until approximately ten years ago.
Can you tell us a little bit about the characters in Sea of Forgetfulness?
There are eight main characters in Sea of Forgetfulness worth mentioning. One of the main protagonists, Angelika Juris, is an introverted, neurotic teen that is unexpectedly forced to raise her sister’s daughter. Anthony Scholz is her boyfriend-turn-husband and the son of Renner Scholz, a mad scientist. Anthony was kept prisoner by his father most of his life until Angelika helped him escape. Despite his horrific upbringing, he is loving, kind and the perfect husband and father.
Veronica Juris is Angelika’s sister, who suffers from depression and addictions. She detests Angelika and blames her and her daughter, Dani, for her miserable lot in life. Dani Juris, the other main protagonist in this story, is Veronica’s daughter. She is feisty, and spontaneous, and brave beyond her years. She has the potential to develop supernatural abilities since she is also the direct offspring of Renner Scholz and possibly one of his test subjects.
Renner Scholz is a mad scientist who used recombinant DNA technology to create an army of supernaturally gifted sons.
Tomas Scholz, the most gifted of Renner’s sons, has telekinetic and telepathic abilities, and can summon fire from within to use at his will. He is ruthless, violent, and lacks empathy and a moral compass.
And lastly, there is Jonathan Lansing, a thirteen-year-old boy with amnesia that meets up with Dani on her quest to find her mutant brothers.
If you could spend the day with one of the characters from Sea of Forgetfulness, who would it be? Please tell us why you chose this particular character, where you would go and what you would do.
I would pick Dani Juris to spend the day with, since I created her in such a way that we share the exact same likes and dislikes. She is obsessed with books, especially the science fiction and fantasy genres, she loves junk food, dislikes eating meat, enjoys playing video games and watching suspense, thriller, and horror films. I’d imagine our day together would involve hanging out at her house, pigging out on pizza and chips, while playing Resident Evil. For hours.
