Into the Black starts off with a bang and never lets up from beginning to end. We are introduced to a new character Janey McCallister. Janey is an investigator who works at a high-end casino, Bijoux de L’Etoile in space.
Janey took the job at the casino to help pay for her mother’s health care and at the moment her job is in danger. If she screws up one more time then she is out. Janey is trying her best to play it by the book and follow all the rules. The last thing she needs at the moment is to lose her job. So needless to say Janey is not getting along too well with her boss or her co-workers. Janey doesn’t know who to trust and who not to.
One of the guests at the hotel has a priceless gem stolen from his room. Janey is assigned to the case. Janey must not fail at finding this gem if she wants to keep her job. Before Janey can even step foot on the scene an insurance investigator, Orlando Valdez beats her to it. Janey has no idea who this guy is or if he is even who he says he is.
Into the Black drew me in from the first page and I fell in love with the story instantly. I loved the world that was created for Into the Black. The characters are just as amazing. When I read the summary and saw that it involved working and living on a space station I was in as it reminded me of TV shows like Killjoys, The Orville, Star Trek and, Vagrant Queen.
If you are into science fiction and or TV shows like the ones I mentioned above then you are going to love Into the Black. To get started on this SyFy adventure one-click your copy of Into the Black today!
Janey McCallister is an investigator who works at a high-end casino, Bijoux de L’Etoile a space station orbiting around Earth. Janey is working in the casino when she spots a very distressed looking woman who looks very familiar to her.
Janey stops the woman to see if there is anything she can do for her. The woman is so distressed that she can barely speak. Janey takes the woman to a private room in the hotel to calm the woman and try to find out what is going on.
The next day a man is found dead in the hotel. The dead man is the distraught woman’s boyfriend. Did this woman commit murder? Who killed this man and why?
Janey’s investigation takes her deep inside a world of high-priced escorts and human trafficking. How does a world of high-priced escorts and human trafficking and the woman she catches running through the casino connect? Or is there a connection?
Janey is having a little trouble of her own. She is worried about her new boyfriend, Orlando Valdez, an insurance investigator who has not contacted her or returned any of her messages in while. Is he alive? Has he broken up with her without letting her in on the secret? Is he in trouble? Or maybe he is working on a case of his own that he can’t tell her about.
Lured By Light drew me into its depths just like its predecessor Into the Black with the first page as Janey spots a woman who seems to be in trouble. I was pulled into a world of betrayal, mystery, suspense, murder, abuse, and more. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the Janey McCallister Mystery series and can’t wait for more of Janey and this casino floating space station world.
Reading a Janey McCallister Mystery is like watching a Star Trek movie or watching TV shows like the Killjoys or Vagrant Queen. If you like shows like these then you are going to love Janey McCallister. One-click your copy of Lured By Light today! Be sure and check out the first book, Into the Black as well.
