Shy Girls Can’t Date Billionaires

Publication date: September 5th 2022
Genres: Comedy, Romance, Young Adult

I never existed until the wrong guy took notice…

I was born shy. And near him, I fall apart. No wonder he can’t stand the sight of me.

After a fire destroys our home, my family is taken in by a billionaire tycoon. His mansion has countless bedrooms, yet my room is next door to his son, Thomas Ashworth III. Yes, he’s as pompous as the name suggests. And, for some reason, he hates my guts.

Even though his arrogance drives me crazy, his chiseled features turn me into a stammering, awkward mess. I hate being stuck with someone I can’t stand. And when he does something unexpectedly kind, it confuses my heart.

When I bump into him in the middle of the night, I’d never guess it lead to us sharing secrets.

He’s impossible to get out of my head. But he wouldn’t consider dating someone like me. Would he?

You will love Christie and Ash. They are stuck together in forced proximity, becoming practically roommates. He is a billionaire, alpha male type who is learning to love. She is the new girl in school, dealing with past trauma. Together they will go from enemies to lovers in an adorable young adult romance.

Interview with Milly Rose

If you could tell your younger writing self anything, what would it be?

I would tell myself that self-publishing is possible. I wrote stories all through high school, then took a big break in my early twenties. Now I wish I had stuck at it because who knows where my career could have been if I’d known about Kindle Direct Publishing.

What are the most important magazines for writers to subscribe to?

I don’t subscribe to any magazines (in general). I get a lot of wisdom from writing books such as Structuring Your Novel by K.M. Weiland, Romancing The Beat by Gwen Hayes, and On Writing by Stephen King. I also enjoy searching for blog posts on certain writing topics, as well as watching Youtube videos created by professional authors.

What do you owe the real people upon whom you base your characters?

I try not to characterize the real people in my life. I actually find it more fun to invent completely fictional (new-to-me) characters. But I will say, I owe a lot to all my previous romantic relationships for giving me wonderful experience and insight to write about romance!

What is the first book that made you cry?

This doesn’t happen often, so I really remember this moment. The Fault In Our Stars by John Green. Boh, oh, boy! I sobbed so hard. I’d move on from the sad scene, and then start crying again because I would relive it in my head. What an experience!

Does writing energize or exhaust you?

It completely depends! Sometimes when I feel exhausted I’ll skip to a scene that I’m more enthusiastic about and that usually gets me out of my rut. When I’m leading up to a first kiss or writing fun banter between love interest, I’m always energized!

Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?

Both! I think it’s super important to put your own spin on a genre or trope. Otherwise, what makes your book unique and worth reading? I also understand certain tropes need to deliver certain things. It’s just how you as an author go about writing the subject matter. For example, I never thought I’d be interested in writing about billionaires, until the idea hit me that I could write about the billionaire’s children. I’ve always loved writing young adult romance, and the fact that my male love interest can get anything he wants with one phone call was really fun to play with. I also get to intertwine that side of the story with an enemies-to-lovers trope and have the female main character question him about his wealth and opulence.

Where did your love of books/storytelling/reading/writing/etc. come from?

I remember very vividly as an 8-year-old, we created stories in class and created small paper books. We’d fold paper and staple them into a book. It was absolute magic to me. I could be an author and show people my book! I created so many books in my spare time at home. Since that day, I was hooked!
