Blog Tour + Review + #Giveaway: Painless by Marty Thornley @martythornley @XpressoTours

Painless
Marty Thornley
Publication date: January 12th 2018
Genres: Adult, Horror, Psychological Thriller

The debut psychological-horror novel from author Marty Thornley is a page-turning ride, a front row seat to a clinical trial gone horribly wrong.

For Greg Owens, this was supposed to be a chance to end years of back pain and escape his reliance on pain pills. If it all worked out, he could maybe even get back the life he left behind as the pills took control.

Instead, as the patients are cured of their physical pain, they encounter a different sort of pain building inside them – obsessive thoughts, depression, self-destruction. The side-effects grow worse, and the suspense ratchets tighter. The patients want answers and violent revenge, setting them on a collision course with a crazed doctor, determined to protect his life’s obsession.

What readers are saying…

“…most definitely a recommended read, though it’s probably not the best choice for those with a weak stomach.”

Gruesome and twisted. Awesome!!!”

“OMG this book. Holy heck the gruesome descriptions of blood and gore and guts was SO RAD. I found myself cringing and fidgeting and yes, even feeling a bit nauseous in some spots – but totally in a GOOD WAY! Painless was exactly what I wanted in a super-unique, creepy, shocking horror-thriller.”

My Review:

Painless tells the story of one man’s journey with pain. Painless tells how Greg fell off a ladder on his job and how he has spent years in pain. It describes his pain and how is prescription meds becomes less and less helpful with his pain and left with no other option to rid himself of the pain he turns to getting drugs off the streets.

Greg’s pain, medication, drugs and being unable to work causes Greg his family; his wife and daughter. Greg wants more than anything to have his life back so he can work and hopefully have his daughter and wife back in his life. Greg is willing to do just about anything for this to happen.

What would you do if you were in so much pain that you wanted to die? What would you do to get your family back? What price are you willing to pay? I can just imagine Greg asking himself these same questions day after day especially after hearing about a clinic and a Dr. that could do just that.

Dr. Menta runs a hospital out in the middle of nowhere where he has been doing experiments on animals and humans. When Greg hears about this place and the Dr. He says sign me up. At first the surgeries are going great the first few patients are doing great after the surgery they are no longer in pain which is great, right? Oh yeah they are great until things start to go horrible wrong. Sometimes being pain free may not be a good thing well not when your patients start to harm themselves.

Painless is filled with lots and lots of blood and gore and is written in explicit detail. Painless may not be for everyone but it is something that I have enjoyed for a long time. Yes I love books with blood and gore, the bloodier and gorier they are the better I like them. But I will have to say that Painless did make me cringe in some areas but I loved it. Now this is what I call a horror book. I can’t wait to check out more of this authors work.

Painless is one book I would love to see on the big screen. I would jump at the chance to see this made into a movie. I would love to see all the blood and gore with my own eyes on TV or at the movies that is. The graphics needed for a movie of this nature is awesome and something I would be very interested in seeing.

If you like blood and gore then Painless is definitely the book for you.

Author Bio:

Marty started writing short stories as a teenager, inspired as much by favorite books and movies as the environment and characters that define the South Shore of Massachusetts. The pull of the movies dragged him first to film school and finally to Los Angeles, where he poked at the outskirts of the industry with screenplays and short films.

As his interest in a film career fizzled, he rebuilt himself bit-by-bit as a programmer. He spent the next decade building websites, finally realizing that something had been lost. His stories were collecting dust in the back of his brain while he sat through conference calls and code reviews.

So he returned to the woods of New England and the calming darkness under the trees. He returned to find the things that crawl in the undergrowth and turn them into words on the page. He dusted off one of his screenplays and turned it into his first novel. In the process, a dormant storyteller was awakened and is now seeking the next blank page to fill.
