Blurb:

Human, private detective-in-training Anna Caill needs a spell. She knows what it will cost, and she’s ready to take the risks, despite the warnings.

Only a year before, she could have found a witch at any corner store. But at the turn of 1920, the prohibition on magic went into effect. It wasn’t easy to find a witch willing to break the 18th Amendment for a human. But after some convincing, not to mention a truth spell, Benji is taking her to the magical underworld.

As Anna gets her first hit of the dark spell that even witches hesitate to use, she finds the cold peace she needs to take on cases in this urban fantasy noir.

My Review:

Anna, a human girl is grieving over the loss of her boyfriend and soulmate and needs the kind of help that only a spell can do. The use of magic was prohibited about a year ago. There can be complication or side effects with the use of a spell like this but Anna is willing to take those risks if she could only find a witch that is willing to break the law for a human.

Anna gets the help she needs in locating a witch that can do the spell from her trusted friend and wizard Benji who takes her to see this witch. Can this spell help Anna or is she biting off more than she can chew?

Anna is a private investigator in training and helps her dad out on occasion with a case. Anna is asked by her dad to help him out on a case. He thinks Anna will be more suited for this case with her age. She has been asked to locate a guy that may be dealing with some things that are way over his head and could cost him more than he is willing to pay. Can Anna locate this guy? Can she help him?

Dancing with Shades is a short story that can be read in one sitting but definitely reads like a full length novel. It has witches, wizards, magic, spells, love, mystery and enough twists and turns to keep the pages flowing from start to finish.

I just love this world that was created for the Council of Covens Noir set in the 1920’s. I just love any magic world and can’t wait for more books in this world of witches, magic and mystery.

I highly recommend Dancing with Shades to all fans of magic, witches and mystery.
