A twisty tale reminiscent of Jane Austen—with a dash of murder—Cindy Anstey’s Deadly Curious is perfect for fans of Kerri Maniscalco and Agatha Christie.
Some secrets are better left buried…
1834. Sophia Thompson wants nothing more than to be one of the famed Bow Street Runners, London’s most elite corps of detectives. Never mind that a woman has never before joined their ranks—and certainly never mind that her reclusive family has forbidden her from pursuing such an unladylike goal.
She gets the chance to prove her capabilities when an urgent letter arrives from her frantic cousin Daphne, begging Sophia to come look into the suspicious death of Daphne’s brother.
As Sophia begins to unravel the tangled threads of the case—with the help of a charming young policeman—she soon realizes that the murderer may be even closer to her family than she ever suspected.
My Review:
A young woman Sophia
Thompson believes that she will be single for the rest of her life
without any marriage prospects wants more than anything to be a Bow
Street Runner helping to solve crimes. There is one little problem
standing in her way, there has never been a female Bow Street Runner
ever well at least not in the year 1834. Sophia has no intentions of
following her mother around for the rest of her life, sitting around
sewing and mending and just thinking about hair styling products and
styles.
Sophia is determined to
prove that she can do the job just as good as any man and is so happy
when she receives a letter from her cousin Daphne asking for her help
in solving her brother, Andrew’s murder. Andrew was killed over a
year ago but there has been no evidence, no suspects or witnesses.
Her cousin’s letter could not have come at a better time for Sophia
so she accepts her invitation to visit and help with the case.
Daphne and her family
have been trying for a year to get someone from the Bow Street
Runners to investigate the case but without any such luck. On the day
that Sophia and her family arrive at their cousin’s estate a Bow
Street Runner, Jeremy is sent out to look into the case. This is
Jeremy’s first murder case. Jeremy and Sophia decide to hook up
together to go around town interviewing town folk.
Strange accidents start
happening around the estate and bodies keep turning up as Sophia,
Daphne and Jeremy continue looking into the case. The more time
Sophia and Jeremy spend together the closer they become and the
romance ramps up.
Can Sophia prove that
she has what it takes to be a Bow Street Runner? Will she prove that
a woman can be a Bow Street Runner? Will Sophia and Jeremy be able to
solve her cousin’s murder before any more bodies turn up?
Deadly Curious has
plenty of mystery and suspense to keep you glued to the pages waiting
and wanting to know more and racing to the end to see whodunit. Join
Sophia and Jeremy on their journey as they try to find the clues and
the evidence needed that will hopefully lead them to the murderer.
Who is the killer?
