Alexander Baima graduated college with $80,000 in student debt at the age of 23 from one of the top 25 business schools in America. After college he went to work as a financial planner and serviced fortune 500 clients. He created the financial plans that brokers took credit for, and while they grossed millions a year, he made minimum wage.

At 29, his parents had a house with an $80,000 mortgage and a child – and they lived on one income. At 29, Alexander still had over $50,000 in student debt. How could previous generations have so much more than most millennials who still struggle with little hope for the future?

Young, Broke and Educated investigates the decline of purchasing power among young people, especially over the last generation. It explores in basic, easy to understand terms, how economic systems have evolved to hinder the financial success of millennials and the incentives that government, big business and banks have to prevent progressive change.

Alexander Baima, a master in the field of eCommerce and early adopter of blockchain technology, walks you through, step-by-step, what the issues are and what needs to change to ensure that millennials and future generations have access to the same type of success that previous generations took for granted.

Interview with Alexander Baima

For those interested in exploring the subject or theme of your book, where should they start?

Textbooks, podcasts and YouTube videos can definitely help scratch the surface if you are interested in economics or finance. I really enjoy the work of Robert Kiyosaki and Peter Schiff. I also believe that economics and finance can be better understood by those who have some type of entrepreneurial experience or training. Many things in these fields have to do with the actions of big business and if you can understand the incentives that drive the decisions of big business you are ahead of the game. I suggest the site Udemy.com to learn new skills and recommend taking entrepreneurship or finance classes through them. (I am in no way affiliated with them FYI

How did you become involved with the subject or theme of your book?

I became motivated to write a book because I was really frustrated with my parents and grandparents. I felt like they lived on a completely different planet and didn’t understand the financial challenges that newer generations are facing. Parents want what’s best for their children, but they can sometimes have very unrealistic expectations. My parents and grandparents kept asking me when I would move out, get married and buy a house. What many older people fail to realize is that rent, college loans, medical care and utilities are much more expensive proportionately for newer generations than they were for previous generations.

What were your goals and intentions in this book, and how well do you feel you achieved them?

I wanted to close the generation gap between older and younger people and the gap in understanding between the rich and poor. I wanted younger people to be able to give this book to their parents and say: “This is what I have to deal with.” I want older people to realize that it’s really hard for kids to move out at 18 and almost impossible to make it on 35k a year. This is not the same America as 30 years ago! Overall I thought I did a pretty good job getting this message across.

Anything you would like to say to your readers and fans?

I hope you learn or have learned something that you can use in your daily life. I would also be very grateful if you recommend this to your friends or family.

What did you enjoy most about writing this book?

I really liked going to writers conferences and meeting interesting people. I actually met a former Olympic figure skater and an executive producer for one of my favorite movies when I was a kid.

Can you tell us a little bit about your next books or what you have planned for the future?

I am aiming to either do a second book or have my own TV series. I plan on calling it “Better Than the Bottom.” My goal is to create a series/book that will explore simple entrepreneurial ideas that anyone can do and see if you can do them and make more than minimum wage. Right now people need to be empowered and led to the realization that you do not need to be super smart or rich to be a great entrepreneur. A traditional job is not the only option,

How long have you been writing?

I would say about 10 years.
