Nehemiah meets an attractive woman while on vacation and has an overwhelming need to protect her. He soon discovers that meeting her is more than a coincidence. Over the years, he has kept her safe but now their pasts may put their lives in jeopardy again. They need to both trust in a love like no other.

Interview with Lisa Washington

As a writer, what would you choose as your mascot/avatar/spirit animal?

I’ve never been into this sort of thing, but since my birthday is in November, I would select the scorpion as my spirit animal. (is a scorpion a animal?) Of course I had to research it and found that I relate. The one aspect that I closely aligned with was the Scorpion can be the most wonderful friend, but also values solitude.

How many hours a day do you put into your writing?

Varies, somedays I will write until my fingers go numb and other days I struggle for 500 words.

Do you read your book reviews? If yes, do they affect what you write in the future?

I absolutely read my reviews. I believe the only way to grow and become a better writer is when you know what your readers like and don’t like.

Do you leave hidden messages in your books that only a few people will find?

Not intentionally, but I have been told about a few. I will drop personal nuggets that only that person (usually a friend) and people who know them will understand.

Can you tell us a little bit about the characters in Love Lifted Me?

The main character is Nehemiah. He is the middle child of seven and kinda walks to the beat of his own drum. He is the only sibling that followed in his fathers footsteps into the military. Instead of being the family guy, like his siblings, he opted for a life of danger.  Until he meets Gabriella, and she changes his world. She was involved in some criminal activity and Nehemiah took it upon himself to save her. Unknowingly, that is what Nehemiah had been doing for some time, saving women.

Can you tell us a little bit about your next books or what you have planned for the future?

Oh my! My next book is part of a 4-part series called My Sisters Keeper. It tells the story of four sisters (obviously) and each of their journeys in love, faith, hope and joy.

Do you allow yourself a certain number of hours to write or do you write as long as the words come?

I use to try to write for at least 1 hour prior to starting my work day. That didn’t last long. Now, I write when the words hit me. Once, I woke up in the middle of the night to write what I had been dreaming about. That night (or morning) I wrote for about 3 hours.

Do you have a certain number of words or pages you write per day?

The goal is to write 1500 words per day. Most days I don’t even come close.

What inspires you to write?

My inspiration comes from God. I believe he gives me all of these story ideas. He wants me to tell these stories like only I can. I also find inspiration in music. There is something about a song that gets me creating.

Would you rather

Read fiction or non-fiction?
Fiction – I love make-believe

Read series or stand-alone?
Series – Gives me something to look forward to

Read Science fiction or horror?
Neither, but I have read a horror novel. It wasn’t all bad.

Read Stephen King or Dean Koontz?
Dean Koontz, only because I have been afraid of Stephen King since my aunt made me watch Cat Eyes. I’m traumatized.

Read the book or watch the movie?
Read a book

Read an ebook or paperback?
Paperback - I still enjoy turning pages

Be trapped alone for one month in a library with no computer or a room with a computer and Wi-Fi only?
A computer – Then I can download my Kindle app and read all the books I want, and watch movies.

Do a cross-country book store tour or blog tour online?
Cross-country tour.  Blogs are awesome, but I like seeing people. And I love to travel.
