Review Tour + #Giveaway: The Perfect Lap by Sedona Hutton @SedonaHutton @GoddessFish

The Perfect Lap
by Sedona Hutton
GENRE: Contemporary Romance

BLURB:

His job is to drive fast. Hers is to put the brakes on him. When sparks fly, will love cross the finish line?

AJ Ryan is a publicity nightmare. After a questionable photo surfaces and his biggest sponsor threatens to pull out, the NASCAR champion admits it might be time to hit the brakes. Thankfully, his new no-nonsense image consultant knows just where to start… too bad she revs his engine so loudly he can barely think straight.

Ella Fisher’s career is a welcome distraction from her poor taste in men. Fresh off another easily avoidable heartbreak, rehabbing AJ’s career is just the diversion she needs. But when the pulse-pounding client actually listens to her advice, Ella wonders if there’s more to the man behind the hot mess.

When Ella is granted guardianship of three boisterous children under the misconception that she and AJ are a couple, AJ surprises her by going along with the charade. Before long they find themselves in a make-shift family that feels more real than pretend.

As their professional relationship takes a hard turn for the personal, a single overheard conversation could make it all go up in flames. Will Ella and AJ’s romance hit the wall, or will love take the checkered flag?

The Perfect Lap is the second standalone novel in the Racing Hearts of Serenity romance series. If you like bad boys with a heart of gold, strong women, and love stories with a new age twist, then you’ll adore Sedona Hutton’s fun, sexy tale.

Excerpt:

“I bet you have a beautiful smile,” he drawled, then lowered his mouth to hers.

She should have pulled away—she didn’t know this man from Adam. But everything inside her protested. After gazing into each other’s eyes, she felt like she knew him intimately.

His lips were warm and tingly, his kiss pure perfection…and he drew back way too quickly. He blinked those deep blue eyes and gave her a lazy grin. “I knew it.” He rubbed the pad of his thumb over her lower lip. “Beautiful.”

That’s when she realized she was smiling.

He rose, and she gave him a quick once over, taking in the sexy stubble on his face, the taut muscles of his chest, his lean physique. As good old-fashioned lust rolled through her like a quick-moving thunderstorm, she silently bemoaned her situation. This was a hell of a time to have a newly implemented man-ban.

“Keep smiling.” Stuffing his hands in his pockets, he winked at her. “It suits you,” he added in that low, sexy drawl. Then he sauntered off.

Her breath caught as she spun around to gape at him. He’d just kissed her and now he was leaving? She contemplated calling him back, then reconsidered. She had other fish to fry.

Even so, she couldn’t stop herself from tracking his every move as he swaggered toward the party, his backside looking every bit as fine as the rest of him. Pressing a hand to her chest, she let out a slow exhale. Even though she was one-hundred percent committed to her man-ban, she could admit—at least to herself—that the sexy, charming stranger had intrigued her.

My Review:

Ella Fisher, a PR consultant made a terrible mistake that cost her, her job and her boyfriend. Ella returns home and with the help of her best friend Nora she is introduced to race car driver AJ Ryan as potential new client. When the two meet sparks fly as they get lost gazing into each other’s eyes. Ella has sworn off men for the time being as she has had some pretty bad heart breaks in the past.

AJ is a hot head and after his last caper his biggest sponsor threatens to pull out. AJ figures it is time to take a break. AJ needs to clean up his act fast so he hires Ella as his new PR consultant. Hopefully Ella is strong headed enough to help him clean up his act and get back on track with his career. Yeah but AJ does not like to follow orders to well. Can Ella help AJ? Is she strong enough?

To help her keep her mind off men Ella decides to volunteer at a community center where she will be working kids she meets three wonderful kids whose mother has disappeared.

Ella takes AJ with her to the community center thinking that maybe working with the kids there could help him calm down somewhat. When AJ meets the three kids Ella has been working with he is instantly in love with them himself. After spending time with the youngest Zach he finds out about their mother missing and that they have no food in the house. AJ informs Ella that the children are all alone with no food.

Ella decides to take the children home with her until their mother shows up. After she is granted permission by the court to take the children she realizes that her little cottage is not bigger enough her, Maddie, Kayla and Zach. Then she has this brilliant idea. AJ has just bought the house next door to her and his house is plenty big enough for all of them.

Ella explains to AJ about the predicament that she has got herself in and then proceeds to ask him if she and the children can move in with him. So Ella and AJ are awarded temporary custody of Maddie, Kayla and Zach. Ella and AJ also pretend to be boyfriend and girlfriend in order to make their little arrangement look real but after a while Ella and AJ don’t even know themselves if their relationship is real or fake as they start to play house with the children.

I don’t read many contemporary romance no I usually prefer my romance have a paranormal creature of some kind but once in a while I do find one that I think I will like and The Perfect Lap fit that bill perfectly with the children and then you add in the hot race car driver on the side. Yeah I would have to say that The Prefect Lap had me from the summary and once it took hold I couldn’t give it up until I had read the last word.

The Perfect Lap is filled with so many different emotions I mean there’s love, sadness, anger, happiness, and warmth. It just grabs you by the heart and keeps on squeezing with all the love and care that our two main characters have for other people. The way they helped those children and their mother is so amazing. Oh and let me tell you that ending had me in tears it was the perfect ending to a perfect story.

And that AJ just didn’t quite know when to stop giving. I mean he had a heart of gold. He is like the energizer bunny he just keeps on giving not expecting anything in return and most of the time never receiving anything in turn but that all changed the moment he met Ella, Maddie, Kayla, and Zach.

The Perfect Lap reminded me of that old movie Six Pack with Kenny Rogers where he plays a race car driver and he meets these kids who are brothers and sisters and decides to take them in.

I would recommend The Perfect Lap to anyone who likes NASCAR and a good romance.

Hi Rose-Marie - Thanks for stopping by the tour and for your interest in the Racing Hearts in Serenity series. There are three stories planned; two published, Nora's Promise and The Perfect Lap. The third book, Restart in Bristol, is scheduled for an early 2020 release. Some readers prefer to read the books in order, starting with Nora's Promise, but they are all standalone novels. I hope you're having a great week! Sedona

How much ‘world building’ takes place before you start writing?

Chris Clifford / Sedona Hutton said...

Hi Teenyluvkins - Great question! I did a lot of "world building" before I wrote Nora's Promise, the first book in the Racing Hearts in Serenity series. This included creating the fictional town of Serenity, TN, maps with businesses and homes, details about the geography, lake, etc. It was much easier to do with The Perfect Lap, which is the second standalone story in the series. The Perfect Lap is set in the same small town, so I mostly used the reference information I had already created for Nora's Promise. Thanks for stopping by the tour! :) Sedona
