From the world of Curiouser and Curiouser: Steampunk Alice in Wonderland

A Steampunk Fairy Tales Short Story

When Knave and Rabbit are given a job by the countess, there’s no distance they won’t climb to get the job done. Coming back down, however, proves much stickier.

My Review:

Knave and Rabbit are given a job to do by the Countess. Their job is to board a pirate ship and take all the things they have stolen. Knave meets a young girl/woman Mei aboard his ship and the two become close.

Dirty Deeds and Bloody Knaves is a sneak Peek into the world of Curiouser and Curiouser: Steampunk Alice in Wonderland. Dirty Deeds and Bloody Knaves give us a sneak peek into Knave and Rabbit’s world of plundering, stealing and pick pocketing.

Chasing Christmas Past

Christmas Eve 1820

At Rose's Hopper, a popular London tavern frequented by airship jockeys, all is merry and bright—except Lily Stargazer. Lily and her crew are set to run the Christmas Day Yuletide Airship Race from London to Calais, but not before spending the night swimming in mulled wine and longing for absent lovers.

Even the prospect of a Yuletide win can't convince Lily that this Christmas will be better than any that came before. But Lily is about to find out that there really is a Father Christmas.

Join Lily Stargazer in this steampunk romance short story, a prequel to the steampunk romantic adventure series, The Airship Racing Chronicles.

My Review:

It is Christmas Eve and snowing out while Lily Stargazer and her crew are celebrating Christmas and drinking. They are anticipating the big race the next day, the Christmas Day Yuletide Airship Race.

Lily is reminiscing about Christmas past, races in the past and missing a certain young man, Lord Bryon. Lily is hoping and wishing that she will see Lord Bryon soon and that she will win the race.

Chasing Christmas Past is great inside look at the world of The Airship Racing Chronicles and introduces us to a great set of characters and a great world. The airships and the race were awesome to say the least. I know it is not Christmas but I just had to read all about the airships and that big race while drinking my coffee in a Christmas cup.

Chasing Christmas Past may be a short story but it packs a whole lot of punch with twist and turns that will have you racing to the end to see how it all turns out. Oh and speaking of twist there was a great one there at the end which I truly enjoyed.

Under the Strawberry Moon
The Road to Valhalla, #0
by Melanie Karsak
Published: January 2020
Publisher: Clockpunk Press
Genre: Fantasy, Short Story, Historical Fiction

Blurb:

Under the strawberry moon, the gods of Asgard whisper to me.
Balder murmurs love.
Bragi blesses my voice.
Sif gifts me with beauty.

But these blessings go wasted in the sleepy village of Dalr where I am simply Svafa, the jarl’s daughter. A völva tells me I am destined to marry a hero, that my child’s name will become legendary. How I’m supposed to achieve this enormous fate is beyond me. However, when my father announces we shall visit the great temple in Uppsala for the midsummer blót, I can feel my fortune changing. The Æsir are busy weaving their own plans, and I cannot wait to find out what destiny the Norns have planned for me.

Under the Strawberry Moon is a prequel to The Road to Valhalla series.

My Review:

A young girl of marrying age and her father go on a trip to visit the King. Svafa, the jarl’s daughter hopes to find a nice young man to wed while she is there. The finds a man, one that her father does not approve of but she wants him more than she has ever wanted anything before. Svafa marries this young man against her father’s wishes.

Svafa’s mother and sister think her father loves her more than them. Their father informs Svafa’s sister that when they return from their trip that she is to wed as well. Svafa’s sister rebels against her father and refuses to marry the young man that he has chosen for her as she loves another but her father will not listen.

Under the Strawberry Moon is a great introduction into a new world with awesome characters. My heart went out to Svafa with all the things the things that life was sending her way. Her father was an awful and ruthless man. Svafa was a kind and wonderful person who didn’t deserve the life that she was dealt.  I can’t wait to check out other books in The Road to Valhalla series.
