Blurb:

My name is Ava Mendoza, and I am a species traitor.

They came hoping to find a new home after their own planet was destroyed, but Earth was dying as well, and most humans saw their arrival as an invasion. Now, two decades later, the Veilorians have been banished to the District, a fenced-in area on the outskirts of the last known livable land on Earth. Most people do their best to pretend they don’t exist, but not everyone. There are humans, like my cousin, who see them for what they are. Despite the threat of disownment, she married a Veilorian, and now she, too, lives in the District.

Even before I met Finn, I was determined to stand up for what was right, but from the moment I laid eyes on him, we had a connection I’ve never experienced before. But with the election of a new and radical mayor on the horizon, tensions are high, and people are calling for change. They want to make my cousin’s marriage illegal and punish any human who goes into the District, but I refuse to back down from this fight. No matter the cost.

My Review:

Ava remembers the day that the aliens came to Earth looking for a new home as theirs had been destroyed; she was only three-years-old at the time. She remembers seeing the bright light as the door to the alien ship opened and the first aliens walked out.

The aliens or the Veilorians were given space to build a community for their people and a fence was around it to keep them safe or I imagine that is what was told at the time, but as the years passed and the hate grew between the Veilorians and the humans a wall was put up.

Once again, I imagine they were told the same story about keeping them safe by keeping the humans out or away from them, but most of the time when someone puts up walls, they are trying to keep someone or something out but eventually the walls will become a source to keep someone in not out.

Not all humans feel the same way. There are probably not many, but more than you would think. There are a few who see the aliens or Veilorians as being no different from them are. A few humans have met and fallen in love with a Veilorian and chosen to forsake their families for the ones they love.

Election time has rolled around for humans and after the election; a new mayor may be elected which could change a few laws for humans marrying aliens and their children. The election is stirring up a whole heap of trouble for the Veilorians their human spouses and their children which could put all of their lives in danger.

Species Traitor has been one amazing journey into a whole new world of aliens and humans trying to stop the hate and bring the two species together as one. The world-building was amply created producing a wonderful new world.

Species Traitor had my emotions in turmoil, one minute I was smiling at something someone said the next minute I would be sad for the wonderful characters as to what they were going through and what they had to endure. I couldn't believe the ignorance of the humans, and they chose not to educate themselves about the Veilorians. Instead, they chose to feed on their hate and to live in misery.

Species Traitor had the feel of the Twilight Saga with two boys loving one girl and that old TV series V when aliens visited Earth. I can't wait to continue this journey with Ava, Finn, Ione, Lena, and Rye in the next book. At least I hope Kate has plans for more books in this world as I do feel as if the character may have a lot more to say.

If you are into aliens and dystopian worlds, then you are going to love Species Traitor. As with all of Kate's books I highly suggest that you one-click your copy today to begin a new adventure.
