Haunted Ends 3: Disco Inferno

by Elizabeth Price

GENRE: Paranormal Mystery

BLURB:

The team of the hit cable television show “Haunted Ends” joins up again to investigate the Galaxy Disco. While shooting their show at the disco, the investigation takes a turn for the worse when the investigating team is transported back in time to the 1970’s. The team, along with Sam, their ghostly teammate, must figure out how to return to their own time by solving the mystery of who killed thirty people.

Excerpt:

He cupped his hand over his forehead, feeling a migraine coming on. “Oh, this… this is not good.” He hurried back to his crew. “By chance, do any of you have cell phone reception?”

Everyone in the group held up their dead phones.

No,” Jennifer whined as she squeezed her phone to her chest in a panic. “OMG! This is like the first time in my life that I haven’t had a phone. What if there’s an emergency? How will we—” she cried.

Everyone in the group turned to her with annoyed expressions.

Chill, girl. Just chill!” Silvia spoke in a calm voice.

Jennifer grabbed a chunk of her long, chestnut brown hair and began to pull at it violently. “Easy for you to say. You’re old. You’re used to not having a phone.”

Watch it!” Silvia growled. She motioned for Rocky to step into the corner away from Jennifer, near the creates of liquor. “We’re stuck, aren’t we?”

Rocky nodded, nervously running his tongue along his lips. “Somehow we accidentally slipped through a paranormal vortex. One of the ghosts who died here inadvertently sucked us into his or her last moments. As long as we can find this ghost, we can return home.”

Interview with Elizabeth Price

What made you want to become a writer?

I was an only child, and there weren’t many children in my neighborhood around my age to play with, so I had to entertain myself most of the time. I was an avid reader growing up, and eventually I decided that reading stories wasn’t enough for me. I began writing my first novel at age 14 on a family vacation to the Grand Canyon, and I haven’t stopped since.

What inspired you to write Haunted Ends?

Most of my ideas originate from my life experiences and the experiences of those I chat with in passing. Not to say that I go around talking to a lot of ghosts, but I have been known to seek out a haunted hotel or two. People who have lived and/or worked in haunted locations enjoy talking about their experiences, and I love to listen.

Can you tell us a little bit about the characters in Haunted Ends?

Rocky, my protagonist, is a paranormal psychic on a ghost investigations television show called Haunted Ends. Rose, the show’s producer, is his ex-wife. His co-host, Sam, is a ghost who finds it fun to pal around with a group of shells (live people). Romeo is the show’s other host, and he’s been with the team since they started filming in college. Silvia is another paranormal psychic and part-time exorcist. And Marcus is their cameraman and the most sensible of the group. There are many other interesting characters in the book, but those are the core members.

You know I think we all have a favorite author. Who is your favorite author and why? I’m a big Poe fan, and I do love a good Sherlock Holmes mystery now and again. As for newer authors, I read whatever comes my way. Thinking about it, I do enjoy Neil Gaiman's work.

Can you tell us a little bit about your next books or what you have planned for the future?

Haunted Ends 4 – Dead In The Water is currently in the works and might be out later this year. Two words – Ghost Ship. I’m excited to introduce three interesting new characters. And, of course, Sam in his own “Ghosts Gone Wild” video. Hint… don’t take a ghost like Sam to Vegas.

I’m also in the process of writing Haunted Ends 5 and possibly Haunted Ends 6 if Rocky agrees to renew his contract with the network. There are so many possibilities with this series, it’s hard to say where I’ll take the crew next.

What did you enjoy most about writing this book?

The end of Disco Inferno takes place closer to where I currently live, so I enjoyed being a tourist and researching my area. Also, I’ve been mentioning the disco since the first book, and I’m glad that I finally have the opportunity to bring that case closure.

AUTHOR Bio and Links:

Elizabeth grew up in Redlands, California as an only child. The lack of siblings, cousins, or even kids in her neighborhood to play with sparked her imagination to life. She spent most days entertaining herself with elaborate stories, even doing so when her attention should have been elsewhere—like on her schoolwork.

As a teen, Elizabeth dove headfirst into the geeky culture of Star Trek and other science fiction and fantasy novels. She became so consumed that she spent all her free time and allowance on new books—eagerly anticipating their arrival. When she felt hindered by her limited allowance and the inevitable waiting period between new releases, it dawned on Elizabeth to revisit the creation of her own stories. This is where she was truly born as an author, pouring her imagination into multiple genres.

In 2009, Elizabeth graduated from California State University Fullerton with a bachelor’s degree in Communications, emphasizing Entertainment Studies. She has taken numerous writing classes to hone her craft—everything from script writing to copywriting, story writing and more.

Elizabeth has been happily married to her supportive husband since 2001. He greatly encourages her in her writing endeavors and accompanies her on trips to haunted locations—her favorite pastime. She currently lives with her husband in Corona, California.
