Matteo knew he was going to marry Macy the first time he saw her working in a coffee shop. Beautiful, sweet, and caring, she is oblivious to who he was really is. When he discovers she’s been killed by a rival family, his broken heart vows revenge.

Can Gianna learn to trust Matteo again? What does it mean for her plan of vengeance when she learns they were victims from the same lie? And can hate turn back into love?

Interview with Beth D. Carter

Have you read anything that made you think differently about fiction?

I read this book by Judith Tarr, Avaryan Rising, and the world building that was done blew me away. Made me want to be a better writer.

How do you select the names of your characters?

I scroll through baby names on line until I find the one that feels right for my character. As for surnames, there is a fantastic website called Mongabay that has thousands of names. I choose a letter and scroll until I come across one that, like the first name, feels right.

Do you hide any secrets in your books that only a few people will find?

I like to reuse the minor characters in my stories and give them their own. I never write a character without the thought I might use him or her again. This links a lot of my stories together.

What was your hardest scene to write?

The mundane that happens between action scenes are the hardest for me.

Do you want each book to stand on its own, or are you trying to build a body of work with connections between each book?

I definitely build connections between each book. For instance, the hero in Doll Face, Matteo, first showed up in my book Shadow Obsession (Death Riders MC book 4).

What were your goals and intentions in this book, and how well do you feel you achieved them?

I like challenging myself and with this book I feel like I stepped out of my comfort zone. I’d never written a mafia story so I did a lot of research.

What inspired you to write Doll Face?

I had this idea of a woman changing her identity to bring down the lover who tried to kill her. I finally found a story where I could use it, which turned out to be Doll Face.

Can you tell us a little bit about the next books in what you have planned for the future?

I just finished my Death Riders MC series, which were seven books and took two years to write. It’s bittersweet. I have a sports romance coming out later this year.

Can you tell us a little bit about the characters in Doll Face?

The hero of the story is Matteo Romanelli, and his father is the Don of the Romanelli Famiglia. He meets a beautiful barista and decides he’s going to marry her one day. His father doesn’t like this idea and orders her death. She is beaten and broken, and thinks it’s from Matteo’s orders. It’s very much a story of love lost and trust betrayed.

What did you enjoy most about writing this book?

My favorite part of writing any book is putting the pieces together. For instance, in my Death Riders series, I wrote the first book without any direction of where the series was headed, and five books later, I was able to tie everything together. Taking all these little pieces and bringing it all together, for me, is the absolute best feeling. It’s what I love most about storytelling.

About the Author

I began reading my mom’s Harlequin Presents in the fifth grade, and to this day it still boggles my mind that my mother allowed me to read them at age 11! My love for romance was born and from that first book, I knew I wanted to write romance novels. Love is the most powerful emotion we can experience, and I adore happy ever afters.

I write about the very ordinary woman thrust into an extraordinary circumstance, so my heroines will probably never be lawyers, doctors or corporate high rollers.  I try to write characters who aren't cookie cutters and push myself to write complicated situations that I have no idea how to resolve, forcing me to think outside the box. I strive to create characters who are complex and full of flaws. Heroes and heroines who find redemption through love.
