Virtual Book Tour + #Giveaway: Unseen by Meg Benjamin @megbenj1 @GoddessFish

Unseen
by Meg Benjamin
GENRE: Paranormal Romance

BLURB:

Teran Richter is in Animas, Colorado, to find members of the Folk, a simple task. But the annual Animas Fall Festival brings hordes of tourists and daily celebrations that make it frustrating. Things begin to look up when Teran meets Marika Sager. Marika’s business partner Eva seems to be a member of the Folk, only it’s Marika Teran’s attracted to, particularly after a local witch’s brew sends the two into a memorable night of passion.

But there are sinister forces at work in Animas. Teran’s attacked and his assistant is kidnapped. When Marika also disappears, Teran’s forced to confront the truth: someone is out to sabotage his mission and destroy anyone who tries to help. With an eccentric team of magical allies, Teran must rescue Marika and fight off those who want to destroy both him and the Folk. But can he find a way to confront the shadowy forces while keeping himself and his lover safe from harm?

Excerpt:

Marika stood silhouetted against the sunset outside the tent. The light danced around her like a nimbus, setting off the dark tints in her hair. Her startling eyes seemed to shift from green to gold.

His shoulders felt tight suddenly, heat sliding along his body to his groin. The rush of arousal hit him instantly, taking him to granite hard in the space of a breath. Holy crap, what’s happening to me? He wasn’t the kind of man who got turned on by every random woman he came across.

But this wasn’t a random woman. This was Marika, who’d already been stirring in his mind. He had an abrupt image of her sprawled among the sheets, her short hair feathered out around her face, her eyes sleepy with satisfaction, her body a combination of sugar and cream.
I’m drunk. I must be drunk. But he gulped more of his beer anyway, without thinking about it. It tasted good. Across the room, Reynard had wrapped an arm around his partner, even though the music stayed fast. She didn’t seem to mind.

Teran spun back to Marika. Her cheeks were flushed, a faint film of perspiration slicked across her forehead. Hot. Hot in here. It hadn’t been before, or anyway he hadn’t noticed it. But it was definitely hot now.

“Maybe we should leave,” he said. “It’s getting hot in here.”

She nodded, keeping her gaze on his face. “Right. Really hot. Really. We should . . .”

“Go,” he finished for her. “Away from here.”

She nodded again. “Away from here.”

Interview with Meg Benjamin

Can you tell us a little bit about the characters in Unseen?

Absolutely. My hero and his assistant, Teran Richter and Reynard, are both members of the Folk, a group descended from European fairies who are now living in the Rocky Mountain region. They’re trying to locate other possible members of the Folk in a remote part of Colorado, a town called Animas. There they encounter two women running an artist’s cooperative. One, Marika Sager, is a weaver who falls for Teran (the feeling is completely mutual). The other, Eva Winchester, is a jewelry designer who may well be a member of the Folk. As it turns out, Teran’s investigation isn’t popular with some citizens of Animas, and he and his friends endure some serious threats.

Can you tell us a little bit about your next books or what you have planned for the future?

My next book is Found, Book 3 in the Folk series. It picks up some characters from Unseen and brings them back to the Denver suburbs that were the setting for Book 1, Away. I don’t want to say much more right now because I don’t want to give away some of the surprises in Unseen.

How long would you say it takes you to write a book?

It depends? Some books go quickly because I have an idea of what I want the plot and characters to be. Others take more time because I get to know the characters and their stories as I write. On the whole I’d say around four to six months for a finished book.

What is your favorite childhood book?

I loved C.S. Lewis’s Narnia books, and I was a big reader of fairy tales (hence, the Folk).

If you could spend the day with one of the characters from Unseen who would it be? Please tell us why you chose this particular character, where you would go and what you would do.

Probably Prince Bertie, who governs the Folk as much as they can be governed. He knows the most about his people and he’s the most sophisticated and charming character in the series (IMHO). I have a feeling he’d be great at long philosophical conversations. I’d love to go to dinner with Bertie and spend the rest of the evening over a good bottle of Bordeaux (which he’d probably choose), learning all there is to know about the history of the Folk.

What was the hardest scene from Unseen to write?

The heroine is kidnapped and threatened with a really horrible death in Unseen. That was hard to write—I hate hurting my characters, even when I know they’ll be all right.

What made you want to become a writer?

I just always wanted to do it. I loved reading and I decided early on that I wanted to tell stories of my own.
