Interview with Kathryn S Rose:
What made you want to become a writer?
I’ve always enjoyed reading and writing. At seven years old, I wrote a 9-page story about Matthew, the Octopus, who went to the surface for ice-cream. Since then, I always had it in my head that I would one day write a novel.
What inspired you to write Beautiful Facade?
I tend to dream up stories during quiet moments. The first thoughts about this storyline formed when I was on my honeymoon in the South of France. My husband was asleep, and I was outside drinking coffee on the balcony, staring at a castle. I wrote a song, which I’ve included in the Falls Festival section of the story, and the premise of the song lead to eventually writing the book.
Can you tell us a little bit about the characters in Beautiful Facade?
The protagonist is Winter, a 27-year-old woman who experienced a traumatic event in high school that has continued to haunt her and impact her life. Winter is gorgeous, glamorous, intelligent, driven, and successful. She is also engaged to a star Australian Rules Football player. But the beautiful façade that she created begins to crack when Kai, a close friend from her past, re-enters her life.
Kai is a musician, protector of women, with a laidback, somewhat cheeky personality who has his demons to contend with. He falls for Winter from the day they met and can’t get over her during their time apart.
Liam is Winter’s fiancé and one of Australia’s football elite. He is attractive, driven, and generally straight down the line. Liam is in the public eye, and he needs to be viewed positively. He has high expectations of himself and high expectations of Winter. On the surface, Liam is a knight in shining armour character who helped Winter overcome a critical step on the road to healing.
You know I think we all have a favorite author. Who is your favorite author and why?
I enjoy reading books from two Australian Authors, KM Golland, and Tanya Bird. KM Golland writes raunchy romance novels, where is Tanya writes more historical romance. I love the addictive nature of their work. My favourite series by KM Golland is the Temptation series, and my favourite series by Tanya Bird is the Companion Series.
Can you tell us a little bit about your next books or what you have planned for the future?
I’m currently writing the second book in what I’m calling the Façade series. I’m using some of the same characters, with Aria from Beautiful Façade being the protagonist. The story starts at her Birthday party. I’m finding it quite enjoyable to write from Aria’s perspective as she is such a different character to Winter.
What did you enjoy most about writing this book?
I enjoyed writing the flashbacks and used inspiration from my childhood in terms of setting and time period. I also loved getting in the flow of writing and losing myself for as long as the kids would allow.
Author Bio:
Kathryn S Rose is a mum, wife, reader, writer, traveller, and food enthusiast. Writing a book was always on her bucket list, and finally, with Beautiful Facade, it has come into fruition.
Kathryn is interested in the study of human behaviour and obtained a Bachelor of Social Science, with a focus on Community studies and Welfare Work.
Since completing her studies, she has worked in several jobs, which have enhanced her understanding of social issues, human development, relationships, and lifestyle. Some of these insights are reflected in her writing and give her inspiration.
Besides books, Kathryn has many other loves. She enjoys listening to live music, relaxing at the beach, embarking on random hiking adventures, and indulging in too much food and wine with family and friends.
When Kathryn and her family aren’t traipsing around the world, they can be found residing in Perth, Western Australia.
