Most people go through life worrying about silly things: careers, mortgages, family strife, the size of their biceps, how many Instagram followers they have, and most importantly, fantasy football. What if there was a way to get more out of life through deeper and more meaningful connections with those you care the most about? Some people turn to religion or meditation for these connections; I turned to my one true friend, cannabis.

The book summarizes my experiences with cannabis, the interesting connections I have made, the benefits to me from making these connections, what I think is happening that allows me to make these connections, and some other random and (hopefully) funny observations I have written down while high.

I hope you enjoy the trip as much as I did.

Author Interview with Eric Right & Alexandra Right

Introduce yourself and tell me about what it is that you do.

I am married and a father of 3 young children living in the Northeast united States. I am a certified public accountant and wanted to write this under a pen name, mostly for career reasons. I started my marijuana journey in 2019 and continued during the COVID-19 pandemic when a lot of these thoughts and experiences occurred.

Tell me more about your journey as an author, including the writing processes?

So, I started having these interesting experiences when high (as most people do when high). At first, I would just be thinking very interesting things about life and the universe in general (again, as most people do when high). However, then I started having interesting things happen with my wife where I could essentially feel what she was feeling on a real-time basis (similar to an empath). At first, I just chalked it up to pure coincidence but after it happened a few times, I brought it up to my wife and she suggested starting to write them down, which I did. After I had an out-of-body experience while high, I really decided to spend some more time writing down what was going on and seeing what came of it. Pretty soon, I had over 200 pages of writings, which eventually turned into the final product. I decided to self-publish due to the topic of the book - cannabis.

Tell me about your Book (that you want to talk about) / Story (that you want to highlight)

The book is really a summary of my journey with marijuana, the benefits to me from this journey, a summary of my experiences and connections that have occurred while I am high and some other completely random thoughts and observations.

There are a few things I want to highlight from the book:

1) it summarizes some of the benefits from consuming marijuana vs. alcohol for me. I drank alcohol for many, many years and the affects on me and my relationships was not good, as many people can probably relate to. Marijuana has several benefits for me, which I outline in the book that hopefully people that are scared of the plant can appreciate. I also compare some other things that people consume on a daily basis and how it compares to cannabis.

2) it summarizes the various connections I have made while high to my wife and family members (even my dog). By "connection", I am talking about me being able to feel or sense how they are feeling without them telling me (or being in the same room as me). At first, I didnt recognize that these feelings may not be mine and it took me a while to train myself to pick up on these connections but once I did, I would recognize them right away. They are cool and interesting and only something that seems to occur when I am high.

3) I try to explain what may be causing these connections to occur (some of the concepts are out there) but it is my best attempt to put theories out there that explains what may be happening. As such, I get into theories of third-eyes, souls and simulation theory, which some people may consider to be more "out there"....but hey, I tried to lay out my thoughts in a way that made some sort of sense.

4) I explain and summarize how others can attempt to recognize others feelings when they are high (if they do consume marijuana) by training themselves to recognize thoughts or feelings that may not be something they would normally think or feel. Hopefully some people are willing and able to experience the same type of connections that I have experienced and reach out to me so I know I am not crazy :)

5) I get into some other random and (hopefully) funny thoughts and observations while high. Some people might say these are just the musings of a pothead/stoner, which I get. However, I found them interesting enough to write down!

I am not an author and so the book was my attempt to try to explain and summarize what I thought was happening and why. People will either accept it or not :) I did the best I could with some of these topics that are pretty profound and deep.

The book is very revealing by my wife and myself and we can into topics that we normally would never be comfortable talking about. However, we felt it was best to be completely open and honest about our experiences to hopefully help other folks that may have difficult topics they need to work through in their lives.

Appropriate age for readers -

I would say really anyone from 18-88. It is hard to explain what an appropriate age would be as it gets into some things that an 18 year old could appreciate and some things that an 88 year old may appreciate.

Obviously, as a male, my perspective may be more understood by men then women, but I have also received reviews from women that say it was an interesting take and they appreciated the candor.

Because I have had these connections with my wife, my parents, my kids, anyone could theoretically try this out with anyone in their lives. There are some explicit concepts that are discussed, like God and sex but I think for the most part, as long as the readers have an open mind and a sense of humor, any age group would (Hopefully) appreciate the book.

Any message for our readers

I would say to please keep in mind that I am not an author and some of the topics that I discuss (souls, third-eyes and simulation theory) were very difficult to explain and summarize. As such, please take what I say with a grain of salt and be aware I did the best I could to describe my experiences and relate it to the other topics I discuss.

As I state in the book, I am not claiming marijuana is a cure-all and will allow other people to have the same experiences that I have so if it doesn't work for others, please do not send me hate mail. I make it known very clearly that I do not know why I am able to do this - it is possible our brains are just naturally able to sync up and connect with each other - but until that is proven, everything I say in the book is just speculation and theory.

I do hope people enjoy the candor and honesty we discuss and it helps them be more open with their personal relationships.

Please reach out to us at higherconnectionsnow@gmail.com and check out our podcast, Higher Connections, where Alexandra and I discuss some concepts from the book and talk about new experiences we have had. Enjoy!

About the Author

The author, known by the penname Eric Right, is not an author by the standard definition of one. He has been writing a variety of things in his mind for close to 30 years, starting with love letters to girls in elementary school that he never had the guts to deliver to and eventually evolving to commentary and thoughts on a wide range of social issues like the environment, religion, abortion and the state of the world. Fortunately, due to his career and other demands, none of these thoughts made it to paper……until now when he decided to write about his journey with marijuana over the past several years.

Eric’s journey with marijuana began in early 2020 as a way to cope with the stress of family, work and relationships. Eventually, his journey evolved into unexplainable connections with those close to him to the point where he decided it was worth writing these down into a book, which he cleverly titled: Higher Connections: Humor and Observations of a Certified Public Pothead.

While Eric does not expect more than 10 people to actually buy the book, writing these thoughts down onto paper was healing and freeing and he hopes others will hopefully benefit from one or two of the things detailed in the book.

Eric has no awards, no honorary doctorates and no other contributions as a knight of the pen.  He is just a “normal” middle aged dude with the normal stressors of everyday life who tried marijuana one day and hasn’t looked back since. He does not claim to know the answers to mysteries of life but he is sure as hell trying to figure them out.

Eric grew up in the suburbs and has three kids, a dog, guinea pigs, koi fish and thousands of flies in the house he shares with Alexandra. Eric loves working out, going to concerts, watching hockey, and playing Playstation with his kids.
