From the author of The Pilot’s Daughter and The Final Hunt comes a thrilling, suspense-driven mystery set in World War II-era Seattle.

Seattle, 1942. News of the war is interrupted by the kidnapping of young Max Ellis, heir to the wealthiest banking family on the west coast. When the boy’s parents comply with the ransom demands, the kidnapper is found dead and their son remains missing. For newlywed Vera Chandler, the story hits close to home—her husband Hugh is just six months into his job as the Ellis’s private pilot.

Within days, Hugh is deployed to the Pacific as a navy pilot, while Vera’s flying instructor and best friend joins the Women’s Auxiliary Ferrying Squadron. Left alone, her parents’ words haunt her: If you really wanted to serve your country, you wouldn’t have dropped out of nursing school.

In an exchange for a favor that Vera can’t refuse, she is pulled into the Ellis family affairs by the desperate mother of the missing child. The Ellis family, Vera learns firsthand, is as dangerous as they are rich. Soon, she is in a race to save the child’s life, and it could be the only way she can save her own.

My Review:

Only One Lie tells the story of one little boy's kidnapping and his mother’s desperate act to get him back before it is too late. The Ellis family is very rich and powerful. Their little boy Max is taken during the middle of the night right out of his own bed with his parents a sleep down the hall.

Vera Chandler is hired on as the Ellis family pilot when Vera’s husband Hugh is called away to fight in the war. After little Max is taken his mother is desperate to find her little boy and asks Vera to help her. While looking for Max Vera’s investigation reveals a lot of ugly secrets that the Ellis family is hiding.

The deeper into her investigation the more dangerous it becomes for Vera as her life is put in danger. During her investigation, the kidnapper is found dead. Where is Max? Is he safe? If the kidnapper is dead a question arises, who has Max now? Is he alone? Can Vera find Max before it is too late? Can she save Max and herself?

Only One Lie is full of mystery and suspense as well as enough twists to keep me racing to the end to see it all unravel. I was kept on the edge of my seat with the excitement of wondering where poor little Max was and wondering if he was safe. I couldn’t turn the pages as fast as I would have liked.

As with all of Audrey’s books I highly recommend Only One Lie to all fans of mystery and suspense. Grab your copy of Only One Lie today!
