Blurb Blitz Tour + #Giveaway: The Precious Pachyderm by Karen Christino @karenchristino @GoddessFish

The Precious Pachyderm
by Karen Christino
GENRE: Cozy Mystery

BLURB:

Manhattan, 1926. A wealthy businessman found dead. A priceless elephant figurine from an extravagant Indian prince gone missing. And famous astrologer Evangeline Adams is a primary suspect.  To save their jobs, Adams’ assistants Mary Adler and Clara Cosentino investigate the astrologer’s classy clients, oddball employees and offbeat associates to help discover who really committed the crime.  And Evangeline solves her first case with the help of astrology in this funny, fast-paced whodunit.

Excerpt:

Clara Cosentino rushed excitedly into the room. “Mary, Jesse just said, while I was walking past, ‘How much do you think she weighs? Add twenty pounds for that butt alone.’  He’s getting completely carried away; he’ll say anything. I know it was about me! Not that my butt is that big, that’s just his style. He likes to make these comments when people are right there. It’s a perverse thing, as if he wants them to hear him and wonder if it’s about them. Or like a kid, to slip one over on you. Richard laughs at them. I guess he has to, since Jesse’s his supervisor. Jesse just wants to attract attention any way he can. Always talking about what hot stuff he is! Mary, I can’t take it anymore!”

Mary took her friend by the arm. “Calm down. Sit here, next to me. Let me get you some water.” As Mary went to the water cooler and brought her back a drink, Mr. Jordan purposefully strode into the room.

“Clara, I’m here to speak with Miss Adams, but I really wanted to talk to you. I don’t like to bring up this delicate subject, but now I have no alternative. Perhaps Mary should excuse us.”

“No, I prefer it if she stayed.” Clara sat down in the chair next to Mary’s desk; her olive skin was flushed.

“Very well, have it your way.”

Mr. Jordan was forty-ish, tall, slim, and bespectacled, with dark hair slicked back from a center part and a sallow complexion. And try as he might, Mary knew he was no authority figure. He was in fact a real pill, but he was still in charge of the outer office where Clara worked.

This excerpt is from the beginning of the book, we meet Mary and Clara, who are working in an astrology office. They have some issues with their male supervisors (even more common in the 1920s than today). Ultimately, though, the quixotic astrologer Evangeline Adams is in charge, and it's a comedy, despite the murder!

Thanks, Rita, I hope you may enjoy it! I tried to add some humor, bring the 1920s to life and present an engaging plot and characters while also including a little something about astrology.
