A Heritage of Death
Alexa Padgett
(A Reverend Cici Gurule Mystery, #2)
Publication date: October 23rd 2018
Genres: Adult, Mystery, Thriller

An unconventional pastor. A brutal murder. To solve the case, one reverend will look for help from beyond the grave…

Reverend Cecelia “Cici” Gurule dreams of a bruised and bloodied woman who looks alarmingly like Cici. She’d like to pretend the dream is a nightmare and nothing more, but there are too many coincidences in her waking life to write it off. Like the baby that turns up on her porch–a baby that disappeared weeks before.

Cici and Detective Sam Chastain race to find the woman, but the killer finds her first. As the trail grows cold, Cici’s only chance to solve the mystery before she becomes the next target may be a clue left by her ghostly twin.

A Heritage of Death is the second novel in a compelling female sleuth mystery series for fans of Ruth Ware and Gilly MacMillan. If you like convention-shattering heroines, vivid Southwest settings, and a touch of the paranormal, then you’ll love Alexa Padgett’s twisty mystery.

Buy A Heritage of Death and hold on tight for a white-knuckle thrill ride today!

My Review:

Cici Gurule is having nightmares about a woman and her baby being handcuffed and chained to a wall. Cici wants to believe that her dreams are just that dreams but with her sister Anna Carmen is still visiting her from time to time Cici knows that more than likely they are real and not nightmares. She would probably still believe or try to make herself believe it if the baby in question didn’t turn up on her doorstep.

Cici has to race against the clock trying to find out who this woman is and where she is before it is too late before she is murdered. But before Cici and Sam can find the missing woman another victim is found murdered with a note attached to the body that says "You're next."

Can Cici and Sam find the missing woman and the killer before he comes after Cici? Cici is a very strong woman who will not run away from this guy. She will do whatever it takes to find this missing woman and stop this killer.

A Heritage of Death is a fast paced read that will keep you on the edge of your seat trying to figure out who the killer is. Like the first book A Pilgrimage to Death in the Reverend Cici Gurule Mysteries, A Heritage of Death grabs your attention from the start and will keep you hooked right up until the end holding all its secrets with an ending that I never saw coming.

I would recommend A Heritage of Death to all fans of mystery, thriller and murder.

A Pilgrimage to Death

They murdered her sister. They threatened her church. But their day of reckoning will cost her everything…

When Cici Gurule finds the dead body of a parishioner in the nearby Santa Fe National Forest, she’s horrified to realize the victim bears the same stab wounds that ended her twin sister’s life one year earlier.

Now, as a freewheeling, progressive reverend who’ll stop at nothing to protect her flock, she’ll need to join forces with her detective friend and loyal pair of Great Pyrenees to hunt down the killer before she’s forced to officiate another funeral.

Soon, however, Cici discovers her sister was on the trail of a deep-rooted criminal operation, and her death was no random act of violence. With the criminals out for Cici’s blood, she needs to catch the wolf by the tail…before it goes in for the kill.

My Review:

Reverend Cici Gurule lost her twin sister a little over a year ago and she is still having a hard time coping with her death. Cici takes a job in her home town and moves back home. Cici and a longtime friend of hers a detective who has also just moved back to their home town are out for a walk and they discover a body. After looking over the crime scene Sam realizes that the victim was murder in the same way as Cici’s sister, Anna Carmen.

The victim, Donald was a member of Cici’s church and she is determined to find out who killed Donald and to protect all the members of her congregation. When she gets a little too close to the case her life is threatened but Cici will let nothing or no one get in her way of finding out who killed Donald or Anna Carmen. Are the two cases connected? Is the killer the one and the same? Who killed Donald? Who killed Anna Carmen?

Cici is a very tough woman and is not afraid to follow whatever clues she is given by her sister Anna Carmen. Anna Carmen visits Cici on occasion sort of like a vision giving Cici the clues and details to help her with her investigation.

A Pilgrimage to Death will grab your attention from the beginning and keep you hanging on with all the clues wondering who the killer is. It gives you just enough information to keep you hooked and holding on to all its secrets until the very end. A Pilgrimage to Death is a great introduction into the world of Reverend Cici Gurule Mysteries. I can’t wait to dive into the next book in the series, A Heritage of Death.

A Pilgrimage to Death is great for all fans of murder, mystery and anyone who loves a great thriller.
