Interview with Kaylene Winter
What book that you have read has most influenced your life?
I’m an incredibly fast reader. I devour two to three books a week even now, with a super busy personal life. What influences me changes constantly but I would say that I have been particularly influenced by Cari Quinn & Taryn Elliott’s Lost in Oblivion series, Jaine Diamond’s Dirty and Player series, Carian Cole’s Ashes & Embers series, and Mari Carr’s The Wild Irish series. All of these books really gave me the confidence and inspiration I needed to become a contemporary romance author.
Tell us a little about yourself? Perhaps something not many people know?
Sure! I am a born and raised Pacific Northwest girl and love this region so all of my books take place in Seattle and I think it’s fun to give readers a little snippet of the place that I love so much. I was lucky enough to be a part of the 1990s grunge scene that took over the world. I was a band manager, a music promoter and a club booking agent so I was around some of the most iconic rock bands that you can think of and experienced things that you wouldn’t believe. All of that experience goes into my books so that I write accurate and real experiences for my characters. Something people probably don’t know about me; a fun fact: I accidentally owned a wolf!
Can you tell us something about your book that is not in the summary?
I got really inspired by my model for this book. The cover model for TIMELESS is Enrico Ravenna and he is a multi-talented, incredible person - not to mention, the sweetest guy ever. I took some inspiration from his real life and infused it into Zane. Enrico inspires something that Zane uses to overcome obstacles in the book.
When writing a book do you find that writing comes easy for you or is it a difficult task?
It truly depends on the day and the amount of the interruptions. I am constantly craving more uninterrupted time so that I can get in the right mindset and in “the zone”.
What is your favorite childhood book?
Good question! It’s a tossup between Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder and Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret. by Judy Blume.
What were your goals and intentions in this book, and how well do you feel you achieved them?
My goal and intention for all the books as interconnected standalones is to create a rich, vivid world that no matter where you enter into the series, you get to know all of the characters. I view each book like an episode in a television series. When you read something in one book, what you know might be true, or it might just be one little nuance that reveals itself later.

When she was only 15, Kaylene Winter wrote her first rocker romance novel starring a fictionalized version of herself, her friends and their gorgeous rocker boyfriends. After living her own rockstar life as a band manager, music promoter and mover and shaker in Seattle during the early 1990's, Kaylene became a digital media legal strategist helping bring movies, television and music online. Throughout her busy career, Kaylene lost herself in romance novels across all genres inspiring her to realize her life-long dream to be a published author. She lives in Seattle with her amazing husband and dog. She loves to travel, throw lavish dinner parties and support charitable causes supporting arts and animals.
