(City of Kaus, #1)
Publication date: November 16th 2021
Genres: LGBTQ+, New Adult, Science Fiction, Western

It has been three years since Elvira “Ellie” Ryder was betrayed by her best friend Cor and watched as her hometown of Kaus was leveled by invaders from a different Zone. Now sworn to seek revenge on him, Ellie has teamed up with her old friend Zach to find their long lost friend.

After getting offered a bounty hunting job—really an assassination job—they find out that part of their payment is the whereabouts of Cor. Without hesitation Ellie and Zach take the job and make their way to the Human Zone to assassinate their target. As they make their way through the desert, and through the Human Zone, they are up against the prejudice of their kind—Kausian, a race that can shapeshift but always stand out with their golden eyes. Nevertheless, they never miss a mark—that is, unless they find out the truth about who destroyed their kind and how their target is right in the middle of it all.

Will Ellie be able to forgive Cor after learning the truth? Or will she forever hold on to that hatred?

Interview with Dani Hoots

What made you want to become a writer?

I always loved stories growing up and wanted to make my own. I started writing as a child and never stopped!

What inspired you to write REVENGE?

I can't remember my initial inspiration, but I have always wanted to write a scifi western as I love Firefly, Star Wars, Trigun, etc.

Can you tell us a little bit about the characters in REVENGE?

Sure! The main characters are Ellie, Zach, Cor, and Gabe. They each are a POV that will take you through the story. Book 1 is Ellie's main arc, and we see how she grows as she finds out why her ex, Cor, betrayed her and her kind. Each book will focus on one character growth, although they will all grow a little in each book.

You know I think we all have a favorite author. Who is your favorite author and why?

I really love Isaac Asimov as he really expanded the sci-fi genre. I also love Kevin J Anderson and got to mentor under him for a bit. My favorite book, however, is GUNSLINGER GIRL by Lindsay Ely.

Can you tell us a little bit about your next books or what you have planned for the future?

Next year I will be publishing the rest of the series REVENGE is in, but I will also be releasing two serials (GRIMMLAND and SUPERNATURAL HUNTERS AGENCY). I am hoping to do a third serial, but we shall see. Be sure to follow me at @DaniHootsAuthor on Instagram to find out more!

What did you enjoy most about writing this book?

I really let the characters take me where they wanted to go and I had a lot of fun learning about them all!
