The
woman panics as the thick smoke starts to curl under the locked door.
She can’t breathe and desperately tries to open the window, but
it’s been sealed shut. Falling to the floor, she finally accepts
there’s no way out of this room alive. And as her vision starts to
fade, she prays she dies before the flames find her.
When
human remains are discovered behind a dumpster in Woodbridge,
Virginia, Detective
Amanda Steele rushes
to the scene. Her heart drops when she arrives and is hit by the
unmistakable stench of gasoline. Soon, her worst fear is confirmed:
the victim was burned alive.
With only an engraved gold
wedding band surviving the blaze, Amanda knows it could be days
before they have a confirmed ID. But when her partner Detective
Trent Stenson arrives,
he pales at the sight of the ring, recognizing it as belonging to his
Aunt Gertrude’s
husband, Don.
Trent
is convinced his aunt isn’t involved, but as more is unearthed
about her troubled relationship with her husband, and she fails to
provide an alibi, Amanda isn’t so sure. Desperate to prove his
aunt’s innocence, Trent soon discovers someone from Don’s past is
back in Woodbridge—someone who wants revenge. But Amanda and Trent
are shaken to their core when that person is discovered brutally
murdered.
Convinced the cases are linked, Amanda knows she
has to find the cold-blooded killer before they strike again. And as
Trent becomes even more emotionally entangled in the case, she’s
terrified he could become the next victim…
A
completely edge-of-your-seat and gripping crime thriller, perfect for
fans of Angela Marsons, Robert Dugoni and Rachel Caine.

My Review:
The Wildfire Girl is the eleventh book in the Detective Amanda Steele series by Carolyn Arnold. As with every book written by Carolyn Arnold The Wildfire Girl had me racing to the end wanting to know what happened. The Wildfire Girl held my attention from the first page until the last. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough.
Detective Amanda Steele and her partner Detective Trent Stenson are called to a crime scene. A body is found behind a dumpster. The body has been burned. They were burned alive. Amanda can tell from the look on Trent’s face when he sees the body that he knows who it is.
Trent recognizes the man’s wedding ring. The man is his aunt’s husband, Don. Don was abusive to Trent’s aunt. Trent didn’t see his aunt often. Don tried on occasion to visit her but was always sent away.
Trent didn’t believe his aunt could do something like this. He believed her to be innocent no matter what she had been through. Amanda wasn’t sure that Trent could investigate the case without favoritism toward his aunt but Trent insisted that he could. Amanda didn’t actually believe that Trent’s aunt could do something like this, but the evidence looked as if she may have.
After more investigation, other suspects started to appear. A woman was also found burned to death. Was the two murders connected in any way? What was going on? Was Trent’s aunt guilty? These questions and more kept me glued to my seat as I raced to the end looking for all the answers. I kept wondering throughout if Trent’s aunt was guilty myself. The suspense kept me hanging on every word.
I truly enjoyed reading The Wildfire Girl and recommend it. Grab a copy of The Wildfire Girl today!
