Cecilia

I moved to Orlando for a fresh start.

Nobody could know my secret.

Catching the attention of the hottest DJ in all of Orlando wasn’t in the plan.

He’s got moves, and they’re not just good. They are good.

Like the beats he spins in the booth, I fall fast for him and his crazy family.

When he finds out about my past, it won’t just break my heart but also crush my soul.

Brock

The third time I saw her at a crowded club, I had to have her.

After our first kiss, I knew she was a habit I would never want to break.

Knowing what she hid from me reinforces what I’ve known for so long. Women cannot be trusted.

Even knowing the worst, I can’t stay away from her.

But when push comes to shove, will I be able to keep her safe?

Interview with Karen Renee

For those interested in exploring the subject or theme of your book, where should they start?

Family of all kinds is a big theme throughout the book, so I would start with Inciting a Riot or Into the Riot. Technically speaking, this book spins off from the Riot Motorcycle Club series, and Brock first appears in Inciting a Riot. Cecilia appears in Into the Riot. While I would encourage those two books as starting points, it isn’t necessary for reading Relentless Habit.

How did you become involved with the subject or theme of your book?

When I wrote Inciting a Riot, Brock and Gabe are younger brothers to the hero. Meeting them through the heroine’s eyes intrigued me greatly and in the back of my mind I knew I had to write stories for both brothers – and that those stories would happen in the Orlando area.

What were your goals and intentions in this book, and how well do you feel you achieved them?

One of my goals with this book was to illustrate how miscommunication or lack of communication can derail a relationship, but since it’s a romance, my characters always find ways to overcome and get back together. I think I achieved that fairly well, I had volunteers read it for sensitivity to subjects such as addiction since that plays a large role in the book.

Anything you would like to say to your readers and fans?

I would say thank you for reading my work. It humbles me to find out people read my books and occasionally can’t put them down.

What did you enjoy most about writing this book?

I enjoyed writing the scenes where they meet each other’s families. Family is a big deal for both Brock and Cecilia, and anytime I get to write a scene with MeMaw in it is a ton of fun!

Can you tell us a little bit about your next books or what you have planned for the future?

My original thought for the O-Town series was that it would be three books. With Brock, Gabe, and their father Warren being the heroes of three respective books. I finished Gabe’s story, Wild Forces, just last week, and my editor is working her magic with it right now. However, I’m not sure if I’ll write Warren and Marnie’s story. A secondary character came along in Relentless Habit, and his story is what I’m working on right now.

How long have you been writing?

I’ve been writing since I was a teenager. However, I only started independently publishing in 2018.

Can you tell us a little bit about the characters in Relentless Habit?

Brock Sullivan is finishing his Criminal Justice degree, working as a nightclub deejay on the weekends. He would love to work for the Florida Wildlife Commission, because he lives for spending time on the water. He’s an alpha hero, and sees more in Cecilia than she sees in herself. Cecilia Lyons is a recovering addict and is working at Walt Disney World. She wants to land a role as Elsa, but after spending time with Brock she realizes that isn’t her dream after all. She’s spunky and trying to get by one day at a time.

If you could spend the day with one of the characters from Relentless Habit who would it be? Please tell us why you chose this particular character, where you would go and what you would do.

I would have to say Cecilia’s MeMaw because other characters naturally come with her. It doesn’t hurt that she’s a blend of both of my grandmothers and I miss them dearly. She and I would tool around Orlando hitting the touristy hot spots and go shopping trying on clothes I’d probably never wear in real life!
