Interview with K. Nilsson

What made you want to become a writer?

I grew up in a family who recounted family lore all the time. It was a way family history was passed on from generation to generation. Additionally, books I read in my youth, Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys, and comics hooked me on suspense stories. Italian novellas hooked me on romance.

What inspired you to write Smoke Screen?

Smoke Screen is the second volume in The Blue Trilogy. The Trilogy is an enemy to lover, romantic suspense, series. The main characters are detectives who have history, a brief liaison that didn’t end well. While the woman is chasing down a missing person, he’s investigating stolen technology. They collide––the cases are connected. Can they get out of each other’s way?

Can you tell us a little bit about the characters in The Blue Trilogy?

Devyn is a rookie investigator. Her boss, Ben, is a former espionage agent. A terrible crash claimed her mother’s life. Her father died a war hero. Now an orphan, she’s redirecting her sorrow to reuniting missing persons with their families.

Max is a private investigator. His murky history of working for The Agency, a group made up of retired Black-Ops turned mercenaries. His history with women is less than stellar. He’s a rake of the worst sort. He recently split from his former partner to strike out on his own seeking out jobs on the dark net.

You know I think we all have a favorite author. Who is your favorite author and why?

It’s really hard to choose one author. My taste in genres rotates from historical romance, to contemporary romance, to erotica.

Looking at the number of books in my Kindle from each author is not a determent of a favorite. However, I read every historical romance Julie Garwood ever wrote at least twice, all LJ Shen’s books, JA Huss, and CD Reiss.

Can you tell us a little bit about your next books or what you have planned for the future?

The last book of the Trilogy, Dead Heat will release in I plan to release the last book of the Blue Trilogy, Dead Heat, in May 2021. Then I will focus on Satan’s Overlord (temporary title), a family saga.

What did you enjoy most about writing this book?

I enjoy the research involved with writing a book in general. The Blue Trilogy involved tiny drones, cell phone chips with spying capabilities. Though I didn’t go into detail of the international technology spies, I had to know about the various groups in the world of espionage. Black Ops involved a lot of digging. I was especially interested in the Green Berets and Special Forces, because Devyn’s father was a member of one of these elite groups. Mercenaries, MOSSAD, eastern European, and Chinese intelligence organizations were in the periphery as well.

Since Krav Maga was a big part of Devyn’s training, I spent a lot of time on that skill.

I have knowledge of the BDSM activities in the last couple of chapters of Smoke Screen and enjoyed building the stomach clenching fear and arousal of the scene and meant for it to be a milestone in the heretofore slow burn romance between Max and Devyn.

Author Bio:

K. Nilsson's love of reading began with the Bobbsey twins. When she ran across some Italian True Romance novellas stashed in the attic, the musty serials hooked her on adult fiction. Though black and white photos were dramatic enough to know what the stories were about, she taught herself to read in Italian and translated them to her friends. She's an unapologetic reviewer of books, restaurants, and vacation destinations. An amateur photographer, K. loves taking editorial photos and documenting her travels. Her personal philosophy, sleeping is a waste of time.
