Interview with Sabine Barclay
How did you become involved with the subject or theme of your book?
An author friend of mine wrote a Mafia book that I checked out and loved. Another author friend recommended some books. I binged over the holidays and decided I wanted to start writing them along with the Historical Romances I write as Celeste Barclay.
What were your goals and intentions in this book, and how well do you feel you achieved them?
My goals are always to give my readers enjoyment and escapism. I think I accomplished that based on the reviews.
What was the hardest part of writing this book?
When I write historicals, I write from multiple points of view within each chapter. My Mafia books have only one point of view per chapter, so I have to remember to stay in that character’s head and not someone else’s.
What did you enjoy most about writing this book?
I love writing the really hot and steamy scenes, and I love creating all the twists and turns that the story takes to keep readers guessing who-done-it as the bad guys.
Where there alternate endings you considered?
No. I’m a very start to finish writer, so when I get to the end, it’s the end. I don’t consider alternate endings for any of my stories.
Can you share some stories about people you met while researching this book?
I haven’t had to meet anyone to research this, but I did learn some interesting facts about the Russian Mafia. I wanted to get things accurate, so I learned about the structure and the different roles. I have an author friend who’s Russian, so she checks my accuracy for the Russian dialogue I throw in here and there.
What genre of books do you enjoy reading?
I’m not that original. I love reading Mafia, and I love reading Highlanders, Vikings, and pirates (which I write as Celeste Barclay).

Sabine Barclay, a nom de plume also writing Historical Romance as Celeste Barclay, lives near the Southern California coast with her husband and sons. Growing up in the Midwest, Sabine enjoyed spending as much time in and on the water as she could. Now she lives near the beach. She's an avid swimmer, a hopeful future surfer, and a former rower. Before becoming a full-time author, Sabine was a Social Studies and English teacher. She holds degrees in International Affairs (BA), Secondary Social Science (MAT), and Political Management (MPS). She channels that knowledge into creating engrossing contemporary romances that will make your toes curl and your granny blush.
