When Sophie's family moves from New York City to West Virginia, she not only has to leave her friends and the city and library she loves so much, but she has to figure out what will happen when she discovers that there is no library in her new town. But when she discovers something called a bookmobile and other new treasures, all is right with the world.

Interview with Kathleen M. Jacobs
How did you become involved with the subject or theme of your book?
Like Sophie, I moved from a large city to the Appalachian Region when I was a young girl. I was devastated that there was not a library in the town where we were moving. I always wanted to write a book about that experience.

Anything you would like to say to your readers and fans?
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you so very much for reading Sophie & the Bookmobile and loving it!

What did you enjoy most about writing this book?
Everything! It was tremendous fun to recall that moment in my life and fictionalize it and watch it grow into a book.

Can you tell us a little bit about your next books or what you have planned for the future?
I am working on my second early chapter reader. It too is a joy to pen.

How long have you been writing?
I don’t recall a time I wasn’t writing – even as a child I was telling stories and writing them down in my diary, locking the diary with a tiny brass key.

If you could spend the day with one of the characters from Sophie & the Bookmobile who would it be? Please tell us why you chose this particular character, where you would go and what you would do.
In Sophie & the Bookmobile, naturally I would want to hang out with Sophie and her friends, but oh so much with Sophie. I’d love to talk with her about books and cats and her incredible fashion sense!
