Diversity
by Monique Gliozzi
GENRE: Fiction / Short Stories
BLURB:
Diversity is a delightful collection of short stories taking the reader on a charismatic adventure mixed with suspense, drama, and even humour.
A close shave with death in The Twin, a humorous account of the stubborn character in The Mask, the romantic and comical rendezvous of Burning Love, the ghostly memories of the El Caballo Inn, and so much more!
Gliozzi's exploration of diverse themes invites us to experience and acknowledge the colourfulness of life itself.
Excerpt:
DISCLAIMER: While some themes in this book may be based on real events, the following stories are fictitious. Certain long-standing institutions, public offices and agencies are mentioned, but the characters involved are entirely imaginary. Any resemblance to actual persons living or deceased is entirely coincidental.
PARASOMNIA
“Oh! I am not dreaming, this is real,” he thought, sipping this curious effervescent fluid, savoring its flavor as it lined his parched palate. This was better than his old friend Jack Daniels. His truncal muscles twitched unnaturally, but, unbothered by the sensation, Toby stood perfectly still, enjoying the peace. He would have something wonderful to share the next morning with Joanna, his wife of thirty years. She had seen him through the highs and lows of show business, supported him through his battle with old friend JD. Now sober for two decades, he had earned her trust, so she would surely believe what he would relay to her at breakfast.
A strange sense of euphoria enveloped his core, before being replaced by a deep emotional numbness. His mind was blank once again. Looking at his hand, he no longer saw or felt the magical cup containing the fragrant beverage. The beam that shone from above was now a tiny speck in the sky, light years away from his cozy home. As suddenly as it had begun, the atmosphere in the kitchen had dropped, returning it to a cold stark space. The ceiling began to close, shutting out the light from the room and his soul. Disappointed, Toby slowly and emotionlessly returned to the warmth of his bed.
From the shadows of the dining room, Joanna watched in silence. It hadn’t been the first time, nor would it be the last. Discreetly, she followed her husband back to their bedroom. Once satisfied that he was back in the safety of their sleeping quarters, she returned to writing her novel in the den. The truth was that in the morning, Toby would have no recollection of this event. It was the nature of the beast. The nature of parasomnia.
My Review:
Diversity is a collection of short stories that has a little bit of everything to offer. It has love in all different shapes and sizes. It has loss and acceptance. It has life and death. It has love and betrayal. It has mystery and suspense.
Each story is unique in its own way bringing with it a unique set of characters. Each story pulls you in from the beginning and keeps you hanging on, story after story.
Once you pick up Diversity and read that first page you are lost in its world. You will not be able to come up for air until the last story is read. The more you read, the more you want. It's like an addiction.
Diversity has a way of pulling you in and not wanting to let go as each story is revealed letting out its secrets with each turn of the page going from one corner of the world to the next.
The stories in Diversity are not all from the same genre. You never know from one story to the next what to expect or where it is going to take you.
There are a few stories that stick out in my mind. From a very unique proposal to a man’s obsession with a mask to a man on vacation in Hawaii that is way smarter than his partner assumed and turned the tables on him to an accident where a wife is trying to save her husband plus so many more…
Pick up your copy of Diversity today to begin all these unique stories today!
