Interview with Constance Meccarello-Gerson
For those interested in exploring the subject or theme of your book, where should they start?
The themes of the book are space travel, and exploration, interplanetary war, and fictional worlds. Mernes the Wizard discusses these points in the book. Another great book about colonization is of course The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury.
How did you become involved with the subject or theme of your book?
I was always interested in what would happen if we colonized a planet and they began to dislike the control of the mother world. What would happen then? As a child I read a lot of sci and fantasy.
What were your goals and intentions in this book, and how well do you feel you achieved them?
I wanted to write a book in which teen age heroes, unwilling as they maybe, set out to complete an involved quest on their own. To show that teens can help save the world. They have the know-how.
Anything you would like to say to your readers and fans?
Well, I hope they enjoy the book. And I hope they write me about it. This is a new branch of writing for me, and I need the feedback. But basically, I want everyone to have a good time reading.
What did you enjoy most about writing this book?
I love creating dialogue. I also loved creating the strange creatures and characters in this book.
Can you tell us a little bit about your next books or what you have planned for the future?
I have outlined Armera book 2 in which a wizard goes on a secret mission, involving magical carpets. Currently I am writing another cozy mystery on my Hassle High Series. It takes place in Florida at a college. And next month I plan to release Snowball the Sherlock Rabbit, a children’s picture book mystery.
How long have you been writing?
Since I was seven. I wrote a mystery sci fi in elementary school. A short story.
Can you tell us a little bit about the characters in Armera?
Demartize is the wizard Cedric and Peterzik are sent to find. This wizard is older and wiser then the two heroes think . Cedric is a professional thief and hero rescuer. He is a young teen, but very street wise. Peterzik (Pete) is a scholar and a teen. He lives with Mernes the Wizard. Pete and Cedric are both good swordsmen.
If you could spend the day with one of the characters from Armera who would it be? Please tell us why you chose this particular character, where you would go and what you would do.
I would love to spend the day with the Snow King. He is crazy and lives in a palace of ice that he created. I think we could spend the day devouring Cedric’s dessert. I would ask questions like, why he is the way he is? I would like to know his history.
