Could you survive the apocalypse? What if you were a kid?

The zombie apocalypse started last night in downtown San Diego. It spread too quickly for anyone to escape.

Especially Magdelina Ruiz, who is only six years old and completely alone.

She’s stuck in the empty top floor penthouse of the luxury condo building that her struggling, widower father sneaks her into while he works the overnight doorman shift down in the lobby. Last night started like any other. But he never came back.

The infected are in the building. And one by one, each resident of the Cielo Vista Towers will have to face them. Maddy’s been terrified of strangers since her mom died. When she entangles herself with her neighbors, everyone’s fate will depend on whether she can tell who the real monsters are.

My Review:

Magdelina Ruiz, aka Maddy is only six years old. Maddy and her dad have been alone since the passing of her mother. Each night Maddy’s dad sneaks her into the penthouse apartment where he works. Maddy stays in the apartment alone all night while her dad works in the building. The next morning Maddy wakes at home in her own bed.

Maddy is staying in the penthouse apartment when everything starts to go wrong. Maddy can see off the balcony down below at how crazy all the people are acting. Her dad comes to check on her in the penthouse apartment when everything starts to go wrong.

Maddy wants to go home but her dad tells her that they can’t at the moment. After checking on Maddy he receives a phone call from his co-worker and says he has to go help his friend leaving Maddy all alone in the apartment.

The City Grew Monsters is told from several different characters' points of view but Maddy’s was my favorite. I sorely enjoyed seeing the world through Maddy’s eyes. Maddy is very smart and resourceful for someone of her age. I also like reading stories that are told by different characters. I like the fact that I get to see more of the story this way.

The City Grew Monsters kept me in suspense from beginning to end. The City Grew Monsters is a very unique story. I don’t believe I have read anything quite like it before. I would love to see The City Grew Monsters made into a movie. I would love to see more of this world with Maddy and all the other characters in future books one day.

If you love all things zombies as I do then I do believe that The City Grew Monsters is the book for you. Grab your copy of The City Grew Monsters today and join Maddy on her zombie adventure!
