From the author who whisked you away on a wild escapade in The Key West Escape Series comes a sexy, adventure-packed spin off. Follow Mitch Thompson and his team of misfits as they find danger, intrigue, and romance on the hunt for the legendary Lost Souls’ Treasure…

Former special ops aviator Griffin Dodge spent two years working on a marine salvage crew based out of Key West after his military career abruptly ended. The only person he let himself get close to on the Salty Dog Crew was a woman called “Bug.” They couldn’t have been more different – the former all-star golden boy from the Midwest and the scrappy French circus performer turned salvage diver – but she became his best friend. Griff was happier than he’d been in a long time, but when his first love called to say she wanted him back, he caught the next flight out of town.

A year later, Bug still resents Griff for ghosting her and the crew after he left. She’s furious when he shows up out of the blue to do a favor for her boss. It doesn’t matter that Griff is single again or that he’s sorry, she hates that she’s stuck flying shotgun to Martinique beside the guy who abandoned their friendship and betrayed her trust.

The trip was supposed to take two days tops. Just enough time to meet with an artifact collector who claims to have the missing pages of a diary that could lead them to The Lost Souls’ Treasure. But when the deal goes south, and Griff and Bug are caught breaking and entering, they’re forced to escape up the side of a volcano where the lava isn’t the only thing about to bubble over. The tension between them erupts into an unexpected night of passion that leaves them both uncertain about what comes next.

While Griff starts to question if settling down in the suburbs still fits the man he’s become, Bug isn’t so sure she’s willing to open her guarded-heart to the only man who’s ever broke it.

When a rival treasure hunter hellbent on beating the Salty Dog Crew to the treasure takes Bug hostage, Griff realizes his future plans won’t matter, if he can’t bring his best friend home alive.

Interview with Tricia Leedom

What made you want to become a writer?

I’ve always enjoyed telling stories. In my twenties, I started to put them to paper. In my mid-twenties I decided to go back to college to get my degree in Creative Writing because, while I had a big imagination, I lacked skill. It was a great decision, because it led me to eventually get my Master’s degree in Writing Popular Fiction. My advanced degree not only gave me the skills and confidence I needed to be a successfully published author, but it also gave me contacts and a support system.

What inspired you to write Pieces of Eight?

Pieces of Eight (The Lost Souls’ Treasure Series Book One) is the first book in a brand new planned six book series. The fun, fast-paced action-adventure is set in Key West and the Caribbean and is centered around a treasure hunt. It’s set in the same world as my first three books, The Key West Escape Series, with some familiar characters popping up and some unexpected secondary characters getting their own stories. I decided to do a spin-off series because readers wanted my first series to continue, but I had always planned it to be only three books. It worked out that one of the characters had a father who was a treasure hunter and retired Navy SEAL. I thought, wouldn’t it be fun to write a spin off series about this crew of misfits and outcasts, mostly ex-military, who go on a big treasure hunt? And that’s how this new series came about.

Can you tell us a little bit about the characters in Pieces of Eight?

Griffin Dodge had a golden life growing up the Midwest, but the all-star athlete’s life took a tragic turn when he lost his mother at the age of 17. He left his high-school sweetheart behind to join the Army and became a special ops aviator. Years later, his decorated career came to a sudden end when he disobeyed a direct order to save the lives of a SEAL team. Lost and unsure of what to do next, he joined a marine salvage crew based out of Key West where he met a woman called “Bug.”

A scrappy French circus performer turned salvage diver, Bug didn’t trust easily but somehow, she left Griff in and they became best friends. Hiding the secret crush she had on him for two years, she was content with the way things were until Griff suddenly got a call from his high school sweetheart and took off to be with her.

A year later, Griff is back, single again and sorry, but Bug is still full of resentment. That’s where Pieces of Eight begins.

You know I think we all have a favorite author. Who is your favorite author and why?

Diana Gabaldon is my favorite author because she writes such vivid characters, I feel like I know them so intimately they are members of my own family. And the world she creates in the Outlander series is so rich and enthralling, every time I read her books I feel as if I’ve fallen through the stones myself. Her writing style, the almost poetic way she describes things, makes them tangible. Her books to me are simply magical.

Can you tell us a little bit about your next books or what you have planned for the future?

My next book Gentleman of Fortune (The Lost Souls' Treasure

Series Book 2) will feature two characters readers meet in Pieces of Eight: Xavier Bassiouni and Amanda Rivera. While the Salty Dog crew continues their search for the treasure, two of its members, Xavier and Amanda, will be asked to infiltrate an exclusive couples-only resort to recover a stolen painting. They’ll have to put their differences aside to pose as newlyweds. Pretending to be infatuated with each other in the romantic tropical setting will be the easy part, the hard part will be remembering their relationship is just a ruse.

What did you enjoy most about writing this book?

Researching and plotting the treasure hunt was fun. I also enjoyed creating the characters and figuring out which secondary characters I could bring over from The Key West Escape Series and feature in their own stories.

Thanks for having me.
