Valerius Cafarelli
In my world, we live and die for our family. We brand our skin with symbols of loyalty and rank that bind us together. It’s time to step from behind the scenes and claim my birthright, leader of the Cafarelli family. But the mafia is nothing if not set in tradition. Marriage is the only way to claim what’s rightfully mine.
When the angel I’ve protected from a distance suddenly needs me as much as I need her, I make an offer she can’t refuse.

She is a candle in the night.
She is a prayer to the gods.
She is the knife that brings me to my knees.

Adaliya Solarin
I took an oath to save lives, trying to redeem myself from a bloody night where I played judge, jury, and executioner. I worked hard to erase all traces of the night I claimed revenge, but my mind can’t forget the man who ensured I’d never be put away for my crime.

Now I need someone to help me save my father from himself. When I’m left desperate and defeated, the man who saved me once offers one last chance at survival. What can I do but make a deal with the devil?

He is the bump in the night.
He is my darkest temptations come to life.
He is my salvation.

Cusp of Darkness is book one of the Cusp series but can be read as a standalone. It has a guaranteed HEA, swoon-worthy anti-hero, and badass heroine. This is an interracial mafia romance containing explicit sex scenes, graphic violence, and is recommended for readers 18+. Interview with Olivia Preya

If you could tell your younger writing self anything, what would it be?

I would tell my younger writing self to write the absolute crappiest version you could possibly write–you can only produce good writing when you have something to work with. So many people gave me this advice when I first started writing, and I want to scream it from the top of the mountains because it’s the best advice I could’ve gotten. Give yourself permission to let the first draft suck–let go of perfection or even “decent.” You’ll make it better once you have something to mold. Your first draft is a lumpy hunk of clay, and you just have to get started on your masterpiece, realizing that the very beginning is the messiest.

If you write a scene like; ““I’m tired,” he said tiredly and yawned before laying down to close his eyes.” Good. Now you can go back and make it better. But you have to get the first draft out of your brain in order to get to a final version.

What are the most important magazines for writers to subscribe to?

I hate to say it, but I’m not subscribed to any as of right now! I’ve recently begun to explore different magazines–but up until now, it’s been an excessive amount of reading in the genre I write (as well as exploring other genres) and researching author interviews and insights on the internet.

What do you owe the real people upon whom you base your characters?

In all honesty, my characters aren’t actually based on real people. I’ve just unloaded figments of my imagination and desires onto paper. If I had to say where I got their inspiration or how they came to me, I think the only way to put it is that my characters begin as parts of me…broken up and spread out. Of course, there are incredibly fictionalized elements to them and enhancements in numerous areas, but they always start with a “what if” and then the characters form themselves in my mind and speak to me–asking me to write them a life of danger and pleasure.

What is the first book that made you cry?

I don’t typically get emotional about books–but Kennedy Ryan’s Long Shot was a tear-jerker…among a million other things. I just got sucked into the characters, and paired with her incredible writing? I was all in; tears, love, anticipation, happiness…you name it.

Does writing energize or exhaust you?

It’s a funny balance of both. Writing, for me, can be incredibly tiring. My brain gets exhausted, my eyes burn from staring at a screen too long, and my fingers hurt from typing for hours.

But there’s something so exciting about bringing my imagination to life that makes it all worth it. I get up in the morning excited about how my characters will inspire me that day–and it makes the exhaustion worth it.

Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?

I think there's originality in everything! But I like to deliver what they want (and what I love the genre for); follow tropes and guaranteeing a happily ever after...among other things. Throwing in the fun twist and turns are great to keep readers on their toes, but I always like to have a sense of comfort in each of my books that readers can get lost in for a few hours or days and know that no matter what they’re thrown, there’ll be a happy ever after.

Where did your love of books/storytelling/reading/writing/etc. come from?

Growing up, my family was big on reading. We didn’t have much TV time and were encouraged to read each and every day for a few hours. I fell into it pretty easily. I liked the escape of reading.

And then I discovered the romance genre and was in heaven. The angst, obsession, pleasure, desire, and guaranteed happily ever after had me spellbound, and I would consume a book or two a day. And when I got older, I realized I wanted to create books that would bring other people as much joy as the genre brought me.

Author Bio:

Olivia Preya is a romance fanatic and author living in Toronto, Canada. She writes about what she loves—love, spice, and panty-dropping men with a soft spot for the love of their lives. When life gets a little tough or bland, she finds that fictional men are the best medicine.

Olivia considers herself to have two personas, like Wonder Woman, but with a pen––corporate marketing specialist by day and spicy romance author by night. She also likes to embrace all forms of sensuality, from pole dancing and erotic novels to good food; she believes that sometimes the best things in life are a little sinful.
