Beasts of the Frozen Sun
Jill Criswell
(Frozen Sun Saga #1)
Publication date: August 6th 2019
Genres: Fantasy, Young Adult

Burn brightly. Love fiercely. For all else is dust.

Every child of Glasnith learns the last words of Aillira, the god-gifted mortal whose doomed love affair sparked a war of gods and men, and Lira of clan Stone knows the story better than most. As a descendant of Aillira and god-gifted in her own right, she has the power to read people's souls, to see someone's true essence with only a touch of her hand.

When a golden-haired warrior washes up on the shores of her homeland-one of the fearful marauders from the land of the Frozen Sun-Lira helps the wounded man instead of turning him in. After reading his soul, she realizes Reyker is different than his brethren who attack the coasts of Glasnith. He confides in her that he's been cursed with what his people call battle-madness, forced to fight for the warlord known as the Dragon, a powerful tyrant determined to reignite the ancient war that Aillira started.

As Lira and Reyker form a bond forbidden by both their clans, the wrath of the Dragon falls upon them and all of Glasnith, and Lira finds herself facing the same tragic fate as her ancestor. The battle for Lira's life, for Reyker's soul, and for their peoples' freedom has only just begun.

MY REVIEW:

Lira of clan Stone lives in Glasnith she is the granddaughter of the clan leader and a descendant of the goddess Aillira as a descendant of Aillira she was awarded a special ability. Lira can read a person's soul with just a touch of her hand.

In Lira's world where she is a soul reader she is used by her father to find out if a prisoner is being truthful or not. Lira doesn't like using her powers in this way as she feels guilty for the life that is taken if they are executed.

Lira finds a young blonde man who has washed up on the beach at first she believes him to be dead like the rest of his people who has washed ashore as well. When she learns that he is alive she takes him into hiding instead of leaving him for her people to find as they will probably execute him for who he is a Westlander known as a beast of the frozen sun.

As a soul reader Lira learns that this young man is not what he seems to be. While this guy, Reyker is one of the marauders who attacked Glasnith he is different from others of his kind, She learns that Reyker has been forced to do what he did all the killing and stealing. He feels guilty for all the hurt he has caused with his thievery and murdering.

Lira takes Reyker under her wing and nurses him back to health. In the beginning Lira and Reyker don't like each other very much at all because they are mortal enemies but as time goes by and they spend more time together things take a different turn in their relationship and their romance blossoms into something more. Their romance is not rushed which makes it seem more real and believable.

In Lira's life she has two choices to make. One is to marry the other is to dedicate her life to Aillira's Temple so she can learn more about her powers and to become stronger. Lira doesn't want any of these choices and wishes for another option.

Beast of the Frozen Sun has plenty of action with the warring between Glasnith and Westlander. Plus there is more action with others who come to Glasnith plundering their lands to lay claim on the people and the land. The action is nonstop with all the fighting.

Beast of the Frozen Sun is for all fans of Vikings, gods, goddess, fighting and little romance on the side.

Great review, Nancy! This sounds action packaged an exciting. And Lira sounds like an easy to root for main character. Glad you liked it! :)
