Do
You See Writing as a Career?
Yes, I definitely see writing as a career.
Not only do I thoroughly love writing, but I plan on doing it for as long as I’m
physically and mentally able. There’s a trove of unwritten stories percolating
inside my brain, desperate to make it to the written page. I’m in this for the
long haul. However, during my journey to establish myself as an author, I have
continued working my other professions—as a psychotherapist and personal
trainer—but the eventual goal is to write full time.
What
was the Hardest Part of Your Writing Process?
Editing is the hardest part of my writing
process for two reasons. Firstly, I find it difficult to cut out large parts,
even chapters of work after spending hours upon hours developing the dialogue,
the scene, the characters…but it’s essential to the writing process…getting rid
of what doesn’t work, or parts that are slowing down the flow of the storyline.
I think I’m starting to get better at it but I’m not one hundred percent there
yet.
Secondly, I feel like the editing process is
never complete. I find myself compelled to keep going back over my manuscript,
trying to find ways to improve it. Over and over again…it’s like an editing
rollercoaster ride.
Did
you have any One Person Who Helped You Out with Your Writing Outside of Your
Family?
Through Tellwell Talent, I hired an editor to
help me with my editing rollercoaster ride. Her name is Rachel, and she helped
with my editing woes, always with a gentle, yet constructive hand. She helped
improve both of my novels, FATHER OF CONTENTION and GUARDIAN OF ANGEL, and I
truly appreciate her suggestions, corrections and insights. The books are
better because of her assistance.
What
is next for your writing?
Next on my writing agenda, I have two more
novels to complete for the FATHER OF CONTENTION series. They are already
written, but in need of more editing (yikes, the rollercoaster ride begins
again!). There is also a fifth book in the series…a spinoff of a minor
character, that brings the story and the characters back but in a different
perspective…an alternate reality. It will be a thrill ride, and more on the
horror side than the other novels in the series.
Do
you have an addiction to reading as well as writing? If so, what are you
currently reading?
I am completely addicted to reading as well
as writing. Ever since I learned how to read, you’d find me with my head buried
in a novel of some sort or another. Right now, I’m reading BIG LITTLE LIES by
Liane Moriarty. I watched the T.V. series based on the book and immediately fell
in love with the characters and the storyline. Knowing that books are often
better than their screen versions, able to go into more depth with character
and story development, I knew I had to the read the book. And it doesn’t
disappoint. If you haven’t already, I strongly recommend reading it.

more recently Spotify (profile name LMores). I have playlists for writing, exercising
(which my son calls seizure music…I like my beats fast when I train, what can I
say), and even some Halloween playlists. Check them out if you like.
Chocolate
or Vanilla?
I love a good chocolate bar, like a Snickers,
but when it comes to flavoured treats like cake or ice cream, it’s vanilla all
the way!
Mashed
Potatoes or French Fries?
French fries with ketchup!
Comedy
or Drama?
Depends on the mood I’m in…if I’m feeling
down, I prefer a drama…if I’m in a good mood, a comedy. It should probably be
the reverse, but that’s how it is.

Steel or Nicholas Sparks?
Nicholas Sparks, especially THE NOTEBOOK. He
never fails to make me cry with his heart-wrenching tales.
Fantasy
or Reality?
I’ll take fantasy over reality any day! Stories
about supernatural entities, vampires, mutants, superheroes…I just can’t get
enough of them!
Call
or Text?
I prefer talking to people in person or at
least on a call. You can cover so much more ground in a shorter amount of time
compared to texting. Texting can be useful to shoot of a quick message, but not
for anything deep or meaningful.
Public
School or Home School?
Public school is a great option in order to
get your child socialized and to have wonderful group experiences. It also
exposes children to different environments, different personalities, different
adventures. However, I know two children who are home-schooled, and they are
the most outgoing, well rounded individuals I’ve ever met. They get to travel
around the world with their parents and have tons of adventures, so I guess if
you do it the right way, home schooling can be equally, if not more, effective.
About the Author
Lanie Mores enjoys travelling to alternate realities, often found with her head buried in a book, binge watching Netflix, or playing video games. Although fantasy and science fiction are her obsession, she enjoys most forms of literature, and has been writing poetry since she was a wee bairn.
She has worn many hats throughout her life: cashier, medical records secretary, psychotherapist, hypnotherapist, personal trainer, and most importantly, mom. Her son is the moon of her life, her sun and stars, and she would do anything for him…destroy Terminators sent from a future realm, deflect an Unforgivable curse with her motherly love, and travel through the Upside Down to find him, even if she had to face the Demogorgon himself.
Inspired to write by Stephen King, Diana Gabaldon, Jean M. Auel and Margaret Atwood, she has big shoes to fill, but has always been a huge dreamer and has the determination to aim higher than the stars. GUARDIAN OF ANGEL is the second novel she has written and published, book 2 in the FATHER OF CONTENTION series.
