Another Christmas From Hell
R.L. Mathewson
(Neighbor from Hell, #13)
Publication date: November 4th 2022
Genres: Adult, Comedy, Contemporary, Romance

The last thing that he wanted was to fall in love with his brother’s best friend.

From New York Time’s bestselling author R.L. Mathewson comes the next installment in the disturbingly funny romantic comedy series, Neighbor from Hell.

It was time to move on.

Granted, Cayley would have preferred to wait until after Christmas, but with her best friend somehow managing to get her fired and evicted in the same day, she had no choice but to move into the apartment across from the man that really didn’t seem happy to see her.

That was fine.

More than fine because if she could handle her best friend making her life a living hell and an ex-fiancé that was determined to get her back, then she could handle the man that was willing to do whatever it took to let the past destroy them both.

He couldn’t believe this was happening again.

For years, Bryce had been going out of his way to avoid Cayley, hoping that she would finally move on, but now that she was back, he realized that he no longer had a choice.

He was going to have to break her heart.

At least that was the plan until the little brat turned the tables on him, making him wonder how much longer he was going to be able to lie to himself even as one thing became painfully clear…

This was going to be the worst Christmas ever.

Interview with R.L. Mathewson

If you could tell your younger writing self anything, what would it be?

I would tell myself to relax more, enjoy that time even as I probably shoved a list of all the mistakes that I’d made over the years in my hands. I would also be more careful about who I listened to, the advice, I would have taken it with a grain of salt and done my research to make sure that I was making the right decision.

What are the most important magazines for writers to subscribe to?

I’ve checked out a few, but nothing has really stuck with me. I honestly get more out of podcasts like Self-Publishing show with Mark Dawson than anything. I read articles, books, interviews, anything that can help me improve my writing and stay on top of all the changes being made in this industry.

What do you owe the real people upon whom you base your characters?

My characters share a bit of me. It’s the only way that I could get into their minds and connect with them. It allows me to figure out who they are and tell their stories. With that being said, my son, Shane, inspired a few characters in my books over the years. He’s a wonderful boy and I’m very proud of the young man that he’s turning into. With that being said, he also keeps me on my toes and makes me laugh. It was hard not to think of him sometimes. He gets a kick out of it. Loves the readers on Facebook that encourage all of his antics.

What is the first book that made you cry?

That’s a really good question. I think it was Lord of the Flies. When the little boy dies in the end… I was destroyed. I didn’t know it was coming. Never watched the movie and once I finished it, I decided that I really did not like books that made me cry.

Does writing energize or exhaust you?

If I am in the zone and the story is flowing perfectly, it energizes me, but when I’m struggling to get into a story or make something connect/work, it’s so damn exhausting.

Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?

I try to give the readers the stories that they want, but sometimes it’s difficult. After I finish writing a book, it’s heartbreaking for me because I feel like I’ve just lost two close friends and now, it’s time to move on. I struggle with that. I really connect with my characters and it’s difficult sometimes to move on quickly to the next book. I have to get into the characters heads, lose myself in the story and let it play through my head and sometimes that ends up leading me to a story that readers aren’t expecting.

Where did your love of books/storytelling/reading/writing/etc. come from?

It was an escape for me when I was a child. When I could get my hands on a book, that was my escape and when I couldn’t, I found myself just imagining stories in my head, desperately needing an escape. It helped a lot, gave me something to focus on, an escape and when I was older and needed another escape, the stories saved me again.
