How did you become involved with the subject or theme of your book?
Miles and Miles of You was inspired by a mashup of pandemic wanderlust and The Great Resignation. My editor and I were chatting on Zoom and I was like, what would happen if a fed-up twenty-something assistant (who didn’t have to worry about a mortgage or feeding her offspring) decided to quit her corporate job and follow her dream of becoming a travel influencer? And what would happen if her resignation left her boss’s life in shambles and he tagged along, determined to win her back? It just sort of snowballed from there, which is one of the things I love most about this story because I’m about as risk averse as they come and aspire to Lucy’s courage!
What were your goals and intentions in this book, and how well do you feel you achieved them?
With romance, my goal is always to deliver a happily ever after for my characters and to provide readers with a feel-good story that is light on angst, high on tension, and will leave them smiling for days. I hope I’ve delivered against that promise with Miles and Miles of You, but I’ll let readers decide from themselves. ;)
What was the hardest part of writing this book?
Miles and Miles of You is set against the backdrop of a Route 66 cross-country journey, so the most challenging aspect of this book was the research as I wanted to ensure I gave readers an authentic Mother Road experience.
What did you enjoy most about writing this book?
Romcoms are always a joy to write because the shenanigans the characters get into are limited only by the author’s imagination. I had so much fun leveraging Route 66 and its many historical attractions to highlight the growing romance between Miles and Lucy and hope readers will find their road trip relatable and hilarious.
Where there alternate endings you considered?
Nope. I’m a plotter by nature, so I always knew the tension between Miles and Lucy would come to a head when they reached the end of the road and that moment is *chef’s kiss*.
What genre of books do you enjoy reading?
I read a wide variety of books and enjoy everything from psychological thrillers to romance, though I have a sweet spot for YA Fantasy.
