Review Tour + #Giveaway: Baptism of Fire by Virginia Crow @DaysDyingGlory @GoddessFish
Baptism
of Fire
by Virginia Crow
by Virginia Crow
GENRE:
Thriller
BLURB:
Kevin
gripped Jilly’s coat and his voice became little more than a
whisper. “I’m cursed, Jilly. Everyone who looks after me dies in
a fire, or someone they love does. I don’t know how to stop it.”
When
Rev. Alastair Roberts adopts Kevin Alderman, he dismisses any
reference to the boy’s curse. But, as the pair spend more time in
each other’s company, it becomes apparent that Kevin is not the
only one with a bitter past.
As
the past continues to haunt them, can they hope to change their
future?
Excerpt:
“Where’s
Kevin?” He looked around the room, panic seeping into him, but he
forced himself to keep smiling. “Tuck in,” he continued. “I’ll
just go find him.”
He
squeezed past the gathered people, but Trish stopped him at the door.
“Are
you alright, Vicar?” she asked, her voice clipped but her tone
caring.
“I’m
just going to find Kevin,” he explained.
“Did
he do it?”
“Do
what?” Alastair asked, confusion on his face.
“That,”
she said, pointing at the dresser.
“No,”
Alastair whispered, staring at the array of crossed out photographs.
He didn’t know whether the word was in answer to Trish’s question
or a statement of disbelief. Perhaps it was both. He took the door
handle and put all his weight onto it.
“Do
you want me to go find him?” she asked. “He’ll just be
outside.”
“No,
I’ll go. But would you do something for me?” he asked, looking
over his shoulder at the other people.
“Yes.
What is it?”
“Don’t
make a fuss, just take them down.”
Trish
placed her hand on his arm and nodded across at him. Alastair stepped
out of the room and back over to the French windows, then out into
the garden. The sudden change from clear electric lights into the
darkness took his eyes a moment to adjust, and he stood still for a
time, waiting for them to focus.
“Kevin?”
he called softly. There were one or two people still standing by the
bonfire, smokers mainly, but Kevin wasn’t with them.
My Review:
A young boy Kevin lost both his parents a
while back. He has since spent time in
quite a few different homes. Kevin thinks the loss of his parents is
his fault. Kevin believes that he is cursed. Kevin believes that
anyone who takes care of him or the ones they love dies because of
him.
My questions is who told this little boy that he was cursed and that
all these deaths was his fault. It is hard for me to believe that a
little boy could come up with this all by himself. Who would be so
cruel to tell a little boy this? Why would anyone want to harm a
child like this?
Kevin is later adopted by Rev. Alastair Roberts. When Kevin tells
Alastair that he is cursed the Rev. tries to explain to Kevin that he
is not cursed. Alastair tries to tell Kevin that all those deaths are
not his fault that he did not kill them. Alastair tries to comfort
Kevin the best he can and tries to be a good father to Kevin.
Alastair hired a lady from the church about a year ago to clean his
house. Jilly needed to make a little money and a way to fill some of
her time to keep her mind off of her ill mother so Alastair gave her
a job. Jilly likes Kevin and also tries to help Kevin to deal with
his past. Jilly spends a lot of her time with Kevin trying to get him
to trust himself again. Jilly is a real nice person and very good
with children and people alike.
Baptism of Fire grabbed my attention from the first page and pulled
me into its depths as each twist and secret was revealed. I couldn’t
turn the pages fast enough to see what was around the next corner.
Kevin and Alastair’s stories touched me deeply. Baptism of Fire is
another one of those stories that is going to stay with me for a long
time to come.
I highly recommend Baptism of Fire to anyone looking for good book or
better
yet a good thriller. One click your copy

Wow! Thank you for this brilliant review, and for hosting me and my book on your fabulous blog!

Congratulations, Virginia on this great review! My question for you today is, would you ever consider co-authoring a book and if so, who would you most like to work with?
Good evening, Virginia. My question for you today is, would you like to see your book made into a movie and if so, who is in your dream cast?
Good evening! My question for you today is, are you a spontaneous or a scheduled writer?
Hello Bea! Thanks for your questions!
The only people I've ever tried to co-write with were my sisters (they're authors too!), and to be honest I'm not sure I could work well with anyone else!
I love the question about a dream cast! With my other books I've always had one or two actors in mind, but I can honestly say I have no idea with this one! They are all "ordinary" people, so I had people I actually know acting them in my head! But I'm going to have a think about this and try and come up with a cast list!
I'm very much a spontaneous writer! I have tried to be a scheduled one but, whenever I do that, inspiration abandons me!
